TC55DA
I am in the process of purchasing a New Holland TC55DA with EHSS, 4X4 with a loader. Any particular information I need to be aware of? I have been on tractors pretty much all my life so I'm not really a tractor "newbie" but this is my first "new" tractor. I learned to steer on an old MHF 50, spent many an hour in the seat. This seems like a pretty decent forum so I thought I would check you guys and gals out. Looking forward to hearing from y'all.

Welcome to TBN! You will find this to be a very informative site. Lots of really good info and opinions and a bunch of great people.

Do a search on the TC55DA - nice tractor great loader capacity but a few have had steering issues under load while at or near idle speeds. Most have said no big deal, but to others it has been more of a problem. Could be a by product of the capacity of the loader vs axle/steering pump design.

Yes! Pictures are a requirement. So if you don't have a digital camera, you should stop by the store and buy one on the way home with your new tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

...and one more thing. We will be happy to spend all your money on neat attachments to your new tractor, so be sure you save up a lot. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I think you'll love that tractor. Congratulations and welcome to TBN. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Great tractor... have had my own for nearly two years now. I work the heck out of it: skidding logs, landscaping, fencing, mowing, digging, you name it.

Blew out the front end twice, due to not enough rear ballast. Ring gear was replaced first time, and complete new front end the second. My rears were filled from day one. 440lbs of rear wheel weights helped immensely, added with the new front end. No problems since.

I lift heavy loads with my grapple that were causing my rear end to come off the ground. If you can make sure your rear tires always have a good part of the load, you shouldn't have any front end problems. I also strap on my backhoe if I'm doing any really serious lifting (boulders, trees, etc...)

Aside from this issue, the tractor (and the local service) has been fantastic, and has paid for itself twice over in the time I've had it. My wife now wants a smaller one for herself, and she's a Kubota-bigot. Bah!

Make sure you torque all the wheel bolts when you get it delivered and a week or so after you've been using it, and monthly after that. They will loosen on you as they wear in. I had a front wheel fall off in the middle of a muddy field shortly after getting the thing... I was not a happy camper after 'swimming' to shore to grab a big socket and torque wrench from the garage.

Enjoy your new toy... I sure enjoy mine.

Baddog,

I also noticed a front wheel was loose. Every lug nut was loose and it would have fallen off it I didn't just happen to see it. I guess it being FWA is what helps the nuts get loose. I didn't realize this was a common problem.

I bought mine new in may and had all sorts of problems. Trouble with the bucket not being able to hold position...like back dragging with bucket and bucket would just curl up. Dealer put new valves in and it seem to help that problem but created another...bucket was turtle slow...drove me crazy. For what ever reason a couple hyd lines blew off...just pulling it out of garage...dealer installed new ones...started having electrical problems with transmission. Stranded me about 2 miles back in the woods ...about to start skidding logs out...never made it out...dealer sent mechanic out and after about 3-4 hours we called dealer and had to have another tractor brought out to tow mine out. They had it for about a month...said it was fixed but no such luck...couldn't take it anymore...called salesman and said something must be done...long story short...NH and dealer bought it back and now I have a brand new TN-75...what a monster. Not trying to ward you off 55...just want you to be informed...salesman said they have sold quite a few and mine was the lemon in the bunch...good luck...get the 759C backhoe...great piece of equipment...go with R1's...mine had R4's and was useless in mud/snow conditions...any other questions let me know...

Thanks guys for the input, I pick the tractor up next week, will be using it to bush hog and clear some land, make the boys some 4 wheeler trails etc. I have just built a new house on my property in Arkansas, my wife and I own 150 beautiful acres, about 40 of it is in pasture. Tractor has R4 tires, probably will keep them as long as they will last. It is a "used" unit with a whopping 90 hours on it. Why do people buy a tractor and only keep it a few months I'll never understand. But any way, thanks for the input, I'll most likely be hanging around keeping my ears open to what you guys have to say. I'm not really into pictures and the such, I'm sure you guys know what a 55 looks like with a loader. I'm also biker trash so I do a lot of riding on my off days during the summer. Later ...
