After reading countless forums, messages and opinions, and after much careful deliberation, I've finally pulled the trigger on a Buhler/FarmKing 60" snow thrower. My poor little 1510 just couldn't keep up with this year's snowfall with the FEL and rear blade. Well, okay, that's not quite true; it could do it, it just took way too long. At any rate, my wife agreed I needed a better solution, so I was given the go-ahead.

I looked around all the local implement dealers, searched around the web and decided to send an email to TBN advertiser Sweet Farm Equipment, due partly to his very helpful presence on this board. Ken replied personally and to make a long story short, he had the best price w/shipping and availability. His staff was very courteous and helpful and the entire process was very positive. I would not hesitate to deal with them again.

My dad, who never likes to be left out when a new piece of equipment arrives, showed up at the farm and helped me assemble everything and hook it up. We had it ready to go in very short time and took a few test runs to get everything adjusted properly. Results? It cleared heavy, late season snow faster and easier than I could ever imagine with the blade and bucket. :cool2:

Thank you Ken for making this large purchase as pain free as possible, and thank you TBN members for the incredible wealth of information and opinions that make these kind of decisions a whole lot easier.

Winter may be almost done, but next year I'll be ready!

Joe

Looks like a friendly neighborhood, but War Road sounds like kind of a tough place.:)

Blower looks great, envy your cab.

Warroad got its name supposedly from the practice of Indian tribes using the location, which is now the town, as a route to war upon each other. It's much friendlier now. :D

Thanks! I lucked out and bought the cab with the tractor. It was made by Koehn Manufacturing Co. in Watertown, South Dakota, who, sadly, no longer make cabs. Too bad, as there don't seem to be any other alternatives to fit a Ford 1510.

Blower looks great, I'm kinda in the same boat this year, getting inefficient moving snow with plow and loader.

I'm starting to follow the blower threads, something I've never done before.

What size and make is yours?

JB.

Joe, we want to thank you for your purchase. We appreciate your kind words. Don't be a "tractor hog" let Dad run the blower if he wants to have some fun in the snow :) Ken Sweet

I let Dad run it for a bit. He was satisfied with a few min. of operation. He handed the whole operation back to me , claiming that his 78 year old neck doesn't like to turn that way for very long. That being said, he lives about 50 miles from the farm, so he doesn't feel the need to drive all the way out there every time it snows. ;)

The blower is a 60" Buhler Farm King model Y600. They're made in Winnepeg, Canada, just a little over 100 miles from my house. Good, heavy, no-nonsense construction.
Congrats on the new addition. Now let the modifications begin.

Here is how I added power rotation to my snowblower chute

WBWI, The mods are already brewing. We're looking at electric chute adjustments in the future. Thanks for the link!

I'm with Dad...don't love that neck turning either. However, I mounted a toolbox behind the seat that is in the perfect spot to put my elbow and forearm to lean on which really helps

I like the color scheme:

I think I've been thumping on the blower bible ever since I got mine... people who don't have one have no idea how much more efficient they are at ...surprise!-- moving snow. Yes, they're expensive, especially front-mount versions. Yes, they're much more complicated than a FEL or a plow. Yes, they're not as fast as a plow.

BUT.... MUCH more efficient than a FEL, and in the same ballpark (though perhaps a distant second...) as a plow, but with NO HIGH SNOW BANKS and no driveway parts to pick out of your lawn in the spring.

If you get a lot of snow, you owe it to yourself to check out a blower.

Congrats on your purchase; I doubt you'll need your FEL except for a bit of cleanup in the spring.
