I traded my 3940 last week for a new L6060 Cab Tractor with Loader, I've been making it my own and started installing a radio and upgrading the factory speakers this weekend...
I installed a Kenwood Bluetooth Radio and Hertz 6.5" Speakers.
The factory speakers are tiny compared to the new 6.5", had to cut out the opening in the headliner and make some rings to bolt the speakers into on the back side.
A few years ago I posted information on a wiring harness for the RTV 1100, the tractor has the same harness but the colors have changed a bit so I included a PDF of the updated wiring colors for the All Electronics connector.

here are a few pics of the speakers.....

You should actually hear some bass out of those speakers which you sure don't get with the oem 4 inch speakers. I replaced mine with Polks, but stayed with same size, worried about cutting holes in tractor under warranty. Much cleaner sound but still no bass, not to be expected in a four inch speaker hanging in the ceiling without a sound enclosure. That looks like a 5 1/4 or a 6 1/2 speaker, and with a plastic/rubber cone, not paper as the oem.

It's funny, when mowing, I put my ear protectors on, crank up the radio, and it sounds just fine. No treble of course but just the smoother midrange comes through. I suppose one could put a subwoofer behind the seat.

Enjoy your tunes.

I'm really impressed with the sound so far... LOTS of base you can feel and it digs pretty low, hopefully it retains the base when I put the roof back on..

They are the same as the tractor.. tiny 4.5" and nothing larger will fit, , I made fiberglass enclosures for 6.5" speaker on my RTV that vent into the roof. see pics.......

That's great if you've got a system that works for you but if you already use ear protectors, why not get a pair with quality earphones built in? You can plug them directly into the radio or do what I do and rig a wireless Bluetooth setup. That way, I can listen while working off the tractor with a stationary implement like a chipper or wood splitter.

I've never had much luck with good quality sound systems in these cabbed CUT tractors due to the high background noise level.

Funny just me but never had a desire to have a radio in my tractor.Like my tunes in the truck when driving but not when running the tractor.

for doing FEL work or where you have to concentrate, I agree. For big mow jobs or slow speed rototilling, some distraction is nice.
And yes, best sound would be plugging in.
