Hello everyone,

I am the new owner of a used (1997) L2900 w/1500 hours on the clock, it has a 480 loader also. I am getting ready to replace the front axle seals (1 is leaking, might as well do both), and read some threads on that procedure.

I am looking to put a trailer behind/3 pt mower for it. Thinking Woods right now, 6 ft. Does anyone have any thoughts/experience/input... this is all new to me...

Thanks!!!

Matt

You cant go wrong with a top brand mower like Woods or Landpride. I like rear discharge.... no windrows to deal with. If you are looking used, check the gearbox and make sure the oil is clean with no water.

I agree. My first RFM was a cheap lightweight one and kept breaking. I returned it and got a 6' Landpride that was built like a tank. If your going to do more than blacktop smooth "Lawns" get a good one to start with. Sure the Woods is also good. I to prefer the Rear Discharge for the way it lays the cut grass in a spread out manner instead of the windrows plus you can cut close to objects/trees/buildings on either side. I've bought and been using the rear discharge decks for about 8 years now and this is my experience, not reports I've heard from"they said" or "I heard" whoever they are. I've also bought several side discharge decks over the years but currently only have two rear discharge decks on two different Kubotas..

What they said for the most part though we have two Caroni RFMs that are running after close to twenty years of hard use. We just replace belts and replaced one bearing. I haven't looked at any recent production models.

What's your PTO hp? Six foot sounds a little big for an L2900 assuming the engine hp is around 29-30 hp.

OK - just looked it up on Kubota's web site and it shows the L2900 has 25 gross hp, so PTO hp would be about 70%-80% of that (higher for a gear model), so I think a 5 footer would be max if even that. There's a rule of thumb that states you need 5hp per foot of brush cutter, but that can vary depending on how thick and what type of brush you're cutting.
