Hello All: Can you please educate me on the uses of a tow bar of this size? How are you using it? I'm getting ready to order from Ken's Bolt-on, so thought I'd ask in case I should add something based on your comments.

I can only see a 1 1/4" shank tow ball or a very large shackle (my 3/4" won't fit, looks like 1" minimum). It seems way too large for a tractor of this size, but then again, maybe I'm missing something as usual.

Thanks, Toukow

Use a draw pin to hook it to wagons, implements, etc...that have a tongue that also accepts the draw pin (I believe the tongue would have what they call a clevis hitch type tongue)

With traditional ag equipment, ball hitches aren’t used. (There was a time when Allis Chalmers had a ball hitch and locking ring system, but I digress).
At tractor speeds, using a draw pin with a clevis type hitch, one doesn’t care about the slop when the pin isn’t exactly the same size as the hole on the drawbar.

If you want to use a ball hitch, many people use a cross-drawbar mounted on the 3 point hitch (with the top link providing a way for it not to rotate).
https://www.amazon.com/Titan-Attachments-Trailer-Receiver-Drawbar/dp/B00CNUUU5A
The advantage is you can raise and lower the 3 point hitch to get under the trailer without adjusting the jack stand, and to help getting trailer through a dip without the tongue or back end dragging. The downside is the 3 point hitch has no down force, so if trailer doesn’t have enough tongue weight (especially when going down hills, or pushing it backing up, especially if trailer tire goes into a rut when backing ) the tongue will raise up, with possible bad results.

In a pitch, I have bolted an undersized ball hitch on tractor drawbar with washers. But I wouldn’t trust it day after day not to slide around and eventually loosen the nut.

The tractor nomenclature for part in picture is rear/center DRAWBAR.
Tractors are designed to PULL. Drawbars need to be heavy.

To easily attach/remove a tow chain you need a pin clevis grab hook, not a bolt on grab hook. You may need a shim/coupler to make clevis pin fatter.

Tractor Supply Company sells clevis hooks. I presume TSC is in Seattle too. TSC sells shims too.

The thickness in part is due to leverage and the length of extension from mounting point under tractor and keeping high tongue weight loads without bending. They are commonly use to RIP stumps out and pull other heavy duty loads. The tractor may have low hp, but good low gearing and torque. Weight and heavy duty are a tractors friend. No need to make that part lighter.

I use my drawbar with a drop-pin to drag a harrow... not only around my own paddocks but at the local equestrian centre and the local Gun Club range.

A short piece of 1" galv pipe nipple cut to the thickness of that draw bar will just fit in that hole so a 1" pin will fit and have very little slop. That's what I did and it works. Bob

I've actually been trying to find something (or make something) for the drawbar on my ck3510. I've got an old small utility wagon that I'd like to use to haul firewood, but the clevis tongue on it is too small to fit on the drawbar on the tractor. The drawbar is about 1.5" thick, while the opening on the trailer tongue is only about 1 1/4". I'm trying to avoid cutting and welding on the trailer tongue if I can, but haven't come up with a good solution just yet.

OK, that makes sense. My old tractor came with a tow ball installed, so assumed it was the common application.

Jeesch Jeff, I've had the tractor for 4 days and you want me to forget the old one already? Cut me some slack! I hate the search engine at TSC, but will look. You might be amazed at the prices around your old stomping grounds, and you get a high hazard earthquake zone to boot! Thanks for the nomenclature and link to post.

That looks useful! Is there a particular term for the piece bolted on top, or does it usually come as a complete assembly? I have some 1.25" Dyneema rope with eye which would work with that setup. Thanks!

Bob, I'm not quite following. How is the adapter held in place? Is it an interference fit?

Thanks all for the education as usual, Toukow

I took a part from an old trailer hitch (a flat bar of 3/4 steel) and used that since my tractor did not come with a draw bar. You could measure the opening and buy a piece steel to fit it.
