Rear Finish Mower New or used finish mower?

I am looking at a 2008 used 5' land pride fdr 1660 in really good shape for $1000. My question is should I buy a 10 year old mower or just put my $1000 toward buying a budget brand new finish mower? If I were to buy new, what reasonably priced brands should I look at?

I am not sure on Land Pride, but I paid $600 for my Bush Hog finish mower about 4 years ago. $1000 seams high to me for a 10 yr old mower.

I would buy used, old name brand quality before budget brand, any day. You have to look what a new name brand unit costs. You can't compare it with the crap out there. Quality equipment just keeps going up, up, up.

$1000 for a five ft mower does seem high. I have a 20 year old walco, and would not consider selling it. Maintenance is the key to longevity.

I agree, $1000 for a five foot finishing mower seems high for a ten year old mower. Of course I haven't prices any new or used lately.

However, depending upon the shape it is in, an older Land Pride could be still worth it. I know I wouldn't even think of selling my 20 year old 6' Woods finishing mower for $1000. In my estimation, it is still worth a lot more than that.

Certainly depends on shape. People are selling junk side discharge mowers that need belts and blades and Wheels for $500 - $750 around here. Or at least they trying to get that. Id take a great condition Land Pride 1660 for $1000 over a project any day. I wouldn't care how old it was. Id care how much use its had and how much wear items it needs to get going again. In fact I bought a 4 year old one that hadn't seen the field but once in its life for $1200 and I'd tickled pink over it.

I buy and sell a lot of equipment. It would have to really look good for me to pay half price of a new one timing is also important the spring is a really good time to sell but not so good for buying the cheaper brands are usually not the best try and find a really good brand parts available is a big deal good luck

What's the cost of a new one? I've generally found that good condition used name brand equipment is worth about half the cost of new.

I had a 6ft Bush Hog finish mower that I bought used for $1500. Used it for a year and sold it for $1500. New they cost $3200.
