Weird thing.. I had the dealer take my tractor a while back to make sure everything was okay. I'm new at this, and do my servicing myself, but wanted them to just check it over, install the non-fogging instrument panel glass (JD 4300), and do whatever it needed.

On return, the front blade didn't work right, and the lever for selecting the "mode" of the SCV (locked, FEL, or non-FEL) was missing completely. They came back, got it, fixed it, and returned it. Now it seems that for the first time I notice a sluggishness in the SCV control until it's *fully* warmed up. And I have to use it a bit more to tell if it even works right when fully warm. Supposed to snow tomorrow, so maybe I'll get my chance.

They also added a new "feature" where, in addition to the front float position, there is a float position to the full right.. probably useful for FEL operation, but annoying with a front blade. The control lever feels rubbery.. not as clean and easy to use as before.. it will sometimes stick to the right or left rather than returning to center automatically.

Did JD change the valve specs, or did my dealer screw things up completely? Any ideas what would cause the front blade to be so sluggish all of a sudden after their work? Maybe too little hydraulic fluid, or maybe they didn't bleed it properly, or something?

Tks,
Bob

It should work as good or better than the old one. Something isn't right with it. I'd take it back in. No way it should stick to one side or the other.

I'm sure you're right, doc. I was just wondering if there could be something else causing this, or perhaps the new SCV needs to be used a bit to get broken in and loosened up a bit. I'll call them after I use it enough so I can be certain I can tell them exactly what circumstances it does or doesn't happen under.

Another weird thing that made me think they had changed the design.. according to my manual, a FEL uses one position of the SCV lock lever, all other front implements use another position, and the third position locks it completely. That's no longer the case after they replaced the valve. The JD dealer sent a guy out and told me it wasn't working right because I had the lever in the wrong position. He put it in the FEL (regen) position, and it seemed to work okay then.

Made me think maybe they put a 4310 valve on a 4300, especially since it had this new added feature of right float.

I'm confused.. gotta call the dealer and see if they can figure out what they did versus what they should have done.

Thanks,
Bob
