JD 4310
I have not been on this for a while due to computer being down for quite some time. I purchased a 4310 about a year ago. I know that JD has since then came out with 20 series, with what I thought the 4320 being the smallest of the series. I just went to a farm show and walked by a tractor and I looked at the numbers on the hood and it said 3320. I had to take a second look. So I had to talk to salesman and he started to tell me that JD was fazing out the 4310 and in March coming out with the 3320. Like I had said I have been out of the loop for a while, but did everybody know this or was I the only one. Wondering what any of the changes was and if everyone knows the price increase. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Flem,
You are correct, there is such a thing as the 3320. Mike, aka Rockyridge, has tirelessly obtained data about these new models. Check into his posts. The data is all there. The synopsis is as follows: 3120,3320,3520 and 3720. 3120 and 3320 are naturally aspirated and nominally more powerful than the 4210 and 4310 and the 3520 and 3720 are turbo (3520) and intercooled turbo (3720) and are more powerful than any previous 4x10 tractor. Hood design is cuter with lovely round headlights. The hydraulics are the same and the fuel tank is to be two-three gallons larger. The overall dimensions are the same. They will offer an air seat for an additional couple thousand dollars. There are some new attachments to take advantage of the new aero hood. Seriously, they are coming out soon, and have some power changes and a few upgrades to the operations, too, but nothing too major there. Price has not been determined, but I suspect they won't be cheap. Mike has done an excellent job gathering date, it is definitely worth reviewing the numbers he has listed in his most recent posts.

The major change is: it's cheaper to produce and will cost more increasing Deere's profitability. A quote from Deere chairman R.W. Lane's 2004 Address: "As an example, the redesigned John Deere 4020 compact tractors came to market with about half as many part numbers as the previous model and some 85 percent fewer product configurations. That had a positive effect on manufacturing costs and simplified asset management."
Model change is the golden opportunity to change/modify/eliminate vendor contracts to supply componets driving down costs usually by off-shoring as much of the componet manufacturing as possible.
Model change is also beneficial becuase the customer expects to pay more for a "new" model which smoothes the process of raising prices to satisfy shareholders (Deere's quarterly dividend increased 27% in 2004).
Bottomline, (as a shareholder /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif) You need a new 3000 Series tractor! Those old 4000TEN series tractors are worthless. (Pay no attention to my signature)

P.S. Check out rocky's excellent threads for all the 3000 Series information like this excellent thread

WOW! you got to see a 3320! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Johnm M gave you a great answer. For all my gibberish, he got it into one paragraph! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

DMP I was thinking about what you said, and actually cheaper to build can be better for the customer, too.

Assuming the new machines perform well, they should be more reliable, and better equipped. We'll see!

Thanks for the kind words on my bumbling posts... I DO like digging up info on what's new. I also miss JMIII, who really shined at sleuthing this stuff out...
