Tractor
Allis Chalmers WD, Mahindra Max26
Thanks for the add. Finally bit the bullet and bought a new Max26 last month, with a FEL, belly mower and snow blower. Great tractor compared to what I was used to in the past Ford 8N, Allis Chalmers WD, and D17, Farmall Super H, and Super M. So far I've only been mowing and breaking up the hardpan in the garden with a subsoiler. The only slight complaints I have on the tractor is that the front of the seat slopes down, almost feels like you're going to slip out, and the exhaust exit. The seat I can probably fix with some blocks between the seat and the mount. The exhaust is another matter, after boating with the Navy for 20 years down in the engineering spaces I've ended up with COPD. I've had several instances where the exhaust is blowing back in my face, which makes it tough on breathing. Has anybody switched a Max26 to a vertical exhaust, or rerouted the exhaust some how? Any suggestions are appreciated. Other tan those two small irritations the tractor has been great so far. Looking forward to your comments.

Many years ago I used to work with an Allis Chalmers 160, Farmall super M and Farmall H. My brother still has the H. All great farm tractors. My Max is the 26XLT which is the latest revision with the M comfort seat and the single piece hood that lifts up. The new seating platform is very comfortable for me. I used to have an International Harvester 424 diesel and would suffer for the next 3 days with cold like symptoms. I attribute this to the excessive diesel particulates. So I got rid of the tractor, also because it had no ROPS. I concur that diesel exhaust from any tractor can become irritating to some of us. I like your idea about the vertical exhaust. If you fabricate a system please send us some pics.

I’m sure the exhaust can be rerouted. I’d talk to a local muffler shop. If you can’t get the machine to them, at least they could bend up the tubing to meet your needs.

The exhaust on my old Mitsubishi went straight up about three feet - above the operator's head. On my new Kubota L2501 it exits downward near the front of the tractor, blowing up into the operator's face. It looks like I could have a muffler shop route it down under the tractor and exit behind the rear wheels, past the operator's seat. I'll have to look closer to see how badly it would blow in my face while connecting equipment to the three point hitch.

Welcome to TBN, Tim. I am new here too, I grew up on my grandfather's 8N Ford, have had a Ferguson TO 35 for 39 years, I bought a Mahindra eMax 22 with a loader just a couple of weeks ago. I joined up to get more acquainted with these sub- compacts.
I had a vertical exhaust on my Ferguson, caught a limb on a hedge tree with it, snapping back it punctured my left eye, the grace of God and a skilled surgeon saved the eye, but no more vertical exhausts for me!
I have asthma, and in danger of it progressing to COPD as I age, so I understand the intolerance for the fumes, but I would be more prone to route it to the rear of the tractor.
