john deere 5103
Hello everyone,

I'm happy to join the forum from central alabama.
I have a 2003 deere 5103 that is a real work horse, but right now she won't crank.
Ive tested the battery and it seems good and I tried jumping.
The dash lights come on, but not even a sound such as the starter solenoid.
I ran a tester, and the starter isn't getting a surge of juice so it must be in middle somewhere.

Any ideas are appreciated.

Cheers,
Ed

While the 5X10 is not the same as the 5103, here is a picture of the starting system for the 5X10 that might help.

Thanks for the reply.
I tried the F5 fuse and that was good.
The previous owner bi passed the seat switch so it would start while not seated.
I was bush hogging and shut her down for lunch, when I cam back she would not start.
The gear selector seem a little 'funny' so it may be in there.

Check all the 30 amp fuses. Over the years other members have indicated that the manual does not match up with the fuse box. Since you where bush hogging, you could have pulled the wires off for the 2 safety switches. Disconnecting while running would not stop the tractor.

Did some checking of some old posts and I think the starting system picture I supplied you with should be close to yours.

After you get it running you might check the seat switch as I do NOT think it plays a role in starting the tractor.

Yeah, I've learned about the fuses when my fuel injector pump wouldn't run. It was the F2 fuse.
I wonder which switch is the least expensive or a way to test the switches.

Can I try turning the key to on and running a jumper from the battery to the starter as kind of a remote starter setup?

On testing the switches you can do it with an ohm meter.

I would try and see if a wire came off, first before trying to hot wire it.

Hopefully this attachment will help you locate the safety switches.
