New Member Intro

Hello,

Just wanted to say Hi, and introduce myself. My wife and I purchased 15 acres last May, and are planning to build our home on it in 2 to 3 years. For now were trying to learn about what kind of tractor we need to maintain the acreage. The acreage is tree lined with small woods in back(about 2 to 3 acres), and the rest of it is slightly rolling to flat with over grown brush and grass.

Welcome, if your purchase isn't imminent I would suggest you continue to read various threads on the different brands and all the various topics discussed. Download pdf's, brochures and other info from various manufacturers. Also, what is your ultimate goal on the property: leaving most in it's natural state, a small or large groomed lawn, large garden, light to heavy duty landscaping, field maintenance etc., etc.

I would suggest you stop at some local dealers and kick the tires of various brands and sizes of tractors. Just tell the salesman you are looking, or go after hours and walk around. My point is each time you look you will notice different things.

I would suggest with 15 acres a small compact rather than a subcompact is a minimum. But, like I said, depends on tasks and goals you have in mind as that will have a lot to do with you decision.

Just my 2 cents, but most of all I think you are on the right site as you start a journey on that chunk of land you purchased. I'm jealous! Good luck in your tractor search!

Welcome friend, I guess by your name you might be from WNY or PA. Of course what you buy depends on countless factors like Tompet said.....I might suggest that two tractors might be in order possibly. The little sub compact tractor with a loader is very versatile and can get into spaces that a 40 horse unit cannot. A little larger and older tractor like a 1970 Ford 3000 can do an awful lot of work and a very nice one should be found for $5,000 and implements are plentiful and cheap.
