Tractor
dont own one
Hello all,

Just bought my first tractor at 52yoa. Like most, have always dreamed of owning one since a youngster. Bought it at an estate/farm auction this past Saturday. Sunday I learned to drive it and work the bucket. About an hour then put it away. It is an 1990 John Deere 1070 with JD 80 loader. Seems very clean, tight and well taken care of. Runs and drives great. Has 1100 hrs. Since I know little to nothing about tractors and their maintenance, I was hoping you all could tell me anything I should do before running it any further? Like should I change all filters/oils before running again? How to tell if they need changing? Things I should look/listen for, myths about maintenance?

Thanks in advance, JD.jpg

Welcome to TBN, mrmitch! You have a nice tractor there, too.

Regarding maintenance... do you know the last time the fluids / filters were changed? Most recommend every 100 hours or annually.

First, welcome to the forum, from Texas!

Second, I would change all of the fluids and filters on the tractor, since you don't really have a history, and know when they were last changed, and the conditions the tractor has been operating under.

Third, get an Owner's Manual, and a Maintenance/Parts Manual. You will find they will be your best friends, so you will know schedules for maintenance.

Fourth, enjoy the tractor!

Have no idea on it's history as the owner was deceased. I was thinking I should do that farmgirl so will do. I bought the owners manual on ebay couple days ago so hopefully be here soon. Didn't realize there was a maintenance/parts manual also but will get one for sure

Thanks, and yes, I will enjoy:)

Hey farmgirl, noticed you own a JD 1050. Before I purchased this tractor I found a Woods 7500 backhoe at a garage sale so cheap $1200) I couldn't pass it up. Came with subframe and mounting brackets. In researching the subframe and brackets found it fits the JD 1050. I'm in no hurry to start hoeing as still learning the tractor/loader :) but can't seem to find the Woods bracket/subframe for my 1070. Wondering if you might shed some light?
