I have just joined the forum although I have been an avid reader for some time. By way of an introduction, I am an Englishman living in SW France. My wife and I keep horses on around 20 acres so most of my time is spent managing the grass, fence repairs etc. I have a JD 4520 which I bought new around 18 months ago together with a few implements (Votex 2 metre mower, chain harrow, Vicon pendulum spreader, 3 metre grass rake) to which I have just added a Protech 180S post driver. The Protech hitches up to the JD just fine and has a local 3 way control for raising and lowering the mast, raising the weight and operating the hydraulic top link. The only problem is that once I have activated the rear ports my wife has to sit with her finger on the dual SCV to keep a constant flow of hydraulic fluid to the Protech. My local JD dealer suggested that I needed to fit a Power Beyond facility. I understand that this can be bought as a kit and fitted by me. The whole point of this rather long winded note is to ask whether anyone can offer any help or advice on fitting the kit.

When dealing with hydraulics, I prefer to let either the dealer or a qualified hydraulic shop do the work. I too am planning on adding as set of PB connectors at the rear. But until then - when I need constant flow at the rear (like for my log splitter) - I simply use a rubber strap to temporarily hold the tractor joystick in an operating position.

Greg,

Many thanks. I think the point you make about the hydraulics is a good one. I have no idea how easy or otherwise the installation would be, and if I mess up bang goes my warranty ! I will reflect and in the meantime try your idea of using a strap or some tape.

The PB kits are not to involved to install, if you are an average wrench-turner you can handle it. I cant post any diagrams right now because JDParts is down currently.

Maybe I missed it, but is this a Cab or Open Station machine?

Thanks for this. My JD 4520 is an open station, although with the weather as it is here I am beginning to wish I had paid the extra and bought the cab version. That aside, I am not too bad with the practical side of things. Does the JD parts site give details of the installation procedure ?

No, but it does shows all the parts involved-like a detailed drawing or schematic. Its the same system the dealers use, and its free to register. There is a quick tutorial linked in my signature if you need help with it.

It's still down now, they often do maintenance and/or updates on Sunday's to it.

Many thanks. I will try the link later and have a look

I installed my own power beyond. I think the only question that I had was the direction orientation of the filter screen assy as it did not specify as I recall. This was several years ago already so things may have changed since then.
