New Member - 2615 Gear

Hello everyone,

I posted this on a 3525 thread, but thought you all might be able to tell me more about the 2615 tractor.

My wife and I took a day off from work and went tractor shopping. She was dead set against anything other than the 3525 based on price, simplicity, and durability. In fact, she wouldn't even sit on a 4110 or anything with 4wd. The dealer was very helpful and informative.

Then, we traveled to a second Mahindra dealer and did some comparision shopping. He showed us a better price on the 3525 with FEL and he will deliver for free (50mile drive). We were kicking tires and I was asking questions about the Japanese and Korean Mahindras. During this discussion, he mentioned a very attractive price on a 2615 gear with FEL along with 4-year zero percent financing. My wife's ears perked right up then and she started climbing all over this tractor. I was set on the 3525, but the 2615 does offer some nice features and will probably meet our needs nicely.

Confused now!

Have you folks heard of any problems with the 2615 series? Any thoughts?

The 2615 Mahindra is a Mitsubishi built machine. They are a very tough, heavy duty, reliable tractor. You won't find too many people with any complaints about them here.

The thing is, you're kinda comparing apples to oranges. The 2615 is a 4wd compact, and the other is an AG tractor. An Ag tractor is alot beefier than a compact, and wore well suited for constant speed, ground engaging, and brush hog work.

Both would do what you want, but I could never get by without my 4wd.

Look at the difference in weight between the two. Just one example of what driver said. A substantial difference that can have a noticeable affect on with what you can and can't do with the different models.

Yeah, I'm looking at a smaller 4wd CUT versus a small Ag machine and they are not even in the same weight class. If I could do it, I'd buy a 4110, which gives me the power I'd like with all the new-fangled gadgets offered by a modern design. After quite a bit of looking and thinking, I'd pretty much talked myself into the 2WD tractor for price and simplicity. However, after really thinking about what I'll be doing here, I believe a small CUT would better suit my needs.....I think!

I've got about 40 acres of property in southern IL. I've got a 900 foot drive to maintain in winter (snow) and I need to grade it every so often. I've got about 4 acres in CRP I need to mow and another acre of yard that needs attention. I plan on culling out the dead trees in the hedge for firewood and need the ability to snake those out. I have erosion problems I need to repair, so a FEL is necessary.

Think a 2615 will do it?

I have a tractor of similar size that will perform all the tasks you mention. As mentioned earlier in the thread, 4 wd is essential once you have used it a few times.

I'm doing it with even a smaller tractor -- I opted for a 2015 4WD-gear three years ago. I pretty much gave up on ag tractors more than 10 years ago when I accidentally stumbled onto an 18 HP Japanese diesel that needed a home and some tender loving care.

A couple of years ago I was planning on buying a 2615 or the 3215 -- or a similar tractor from competing manufacturers. I settled on the 2015 over the the bigger tractors because I was having a lot of trouble with my knees. It is a lot easier getting on and off the 2015 compared to the 2615 or larger -- actually, since getting rid of my two previous tractors, my knees have completely healed.

Compared to some of my older Ag tractors, my little 2015 4WD will do nearly everything, plus a lot of other things, that I asked of my old Ford N-series tractors, and my vintage Massey and/or Ferguson 35s/135s. I did go down to a 4-foot brushhog from a 5-footer, but otherwise I'm using the same 5- and 6-foot implements.

My primary residence is on 25 acres of hilly and wooded property. I have another seven acres a few miles away. At the primary residence, I maintain over a half-mile of typical WV gravel mountain driveway. That means clearing a lot of snow, and pulling the gravel back after every storm. 2WD in a machine twice the size and weight cannot even begin to compare with the much smaller and lighter 4WD -- especially if you have chains and loaded tires.

I brushhog a little over 5 acres of wildlife management area (not currently in CRP). I cut, buck, skid, split, and move about seven cords of firewood each year. I plant lots and lots of garden plants, especially tomatoes, using a post hole digger. The holes get filled with worm castings and compost that I maintain and move with the FEL. My orchard is well maintained. I intensively raise fish, and the backhoe is invaluable in those efforts. I wish I had before-and-after pictures of the erosion I've repaired with the box blade and FEL using the 2015.

From about 1965 to 2005, I owned/restored innumerable tractors and crawlers from about 8 hp to about 65 hp. I grew up with IH, JD, Allis Chalmers, Oliver, and Minneapolis-Moline.

The 2015 is the first new tractor I've ever owned. It is now almost three years old, and has about 150 hours. It starts in cold weather (down to about 0 degrees here) without any problems. I did weld a piece of angle onto the loader's top lip because it bent after the first use. Other than that, I've not had any complaints -- just compliments for the tractor, the FEL, and the backhoe. Regular maintenanace is extremely fast and easy.

My local dealer, KMW (the FEL and backhoe folks), and Mahindra have all been extremely supportive and helpful in addressing the few questions and issues I've had.

From what I know of the Mahindra 15-series, I don't think you can go wrong.
