- 08 Montana C5264, 2011 McCormick CX100 XS
Just pulled the trigger on a new 2011 McCormick CX100 Xtra Speed. This is a tractor built by CASE inthe UK for ARGO/McCormick tractors.
I needed a second tractor on the farm, and I needed something with more power than the 52hp Montana I alredy had. I also wanted a Cab and all the creature comforts & ease of use features that dont come on the 2008 Montana (which uses 60's technology and everything is manual). This new tractor is intended to be my "forever" machine and must take me through my old age.
I decided on the McCormick CX100 for several reasons:
the dealer is close by and has exceptional service
the CX100 is built by CASE and has good reviews
the CX100 has all the features I was after
they had a New aged Inventory 2011 in the warehouse that I got a realy good deal on.
Features:
93 HP, 82 HP at PTO - 4 cyl 4.4 litre, perkins turbo deisel with after cooler
24 speed, Hydro Wet Clutch and 3 speed powershift, 40km/h road gear, Hydro power shuttle shift, push button clutch gear shifting.
Cab with A/C, Stereo
Tilt Steering and Telescopic steering (Big Selling feature for me, this was by far the most comfortable tractor I test drove)
Air Ride premium seat
telescopic 3 pt hitch arms (Cat 2)
2 sets of hydraulic remotes
remote controlers at the back ofthe tractor for raise/lower 3 pt and on/off pto
Almost everyithing is computer controled/push button from the cab (4wd, pto, draft control, etc etc.).
540 and 1000 rmp PTO shafts -- dual shafts at the back
No heavy work done with it yet (ie Plowing), just brush hogging so far.
The Good (So far) :
limited seat time so far (20 hours) but overall I love it.
the Cab is comfortable, its a pleassure to drive.
visibility is top notch, the sun roof and shade cover are great
Engine is smooth and starts easily
User manual is good, and comprehensive
love the power shift feature
plenty of power
The "wish it was different/better"
Fuel consumption - more than the montana with the 60's Fiat 3 cyl diesel, Im using just under 1 gallon per hour right now, maybe it will get better after run-in period ?
Paint - some flaking off the plastic rear fender - warranty
Heater and A/C controller - the blend knob isnt cutting off the heat when its moved to the cold position - Warranty
6" too tall to fit in my garage with a 9' door
