Just purchased a new Massey 1835E. It comes with a 60 inch dirt bucket but would like to build a snow pusher before the white stuff hits. Any recommendations on width? I do live in Wisconsin and mostly get four to seven inches at a time. Was thinking of going 68-70. Any buddy have experience and can help a guy out?

Thanks

I don’t have experience with an actual pusher but I live in Maine and I use a 48” blower on my rider and also my 54” bucket and 60” box blade for my snow removal. We regularly get 12-18” storms and they’ve worked fine. It would depend on how much area you have to clear and what your clearances are (clearing around equipment, getting around house). My 60” box blade works very well for clearing about half an acre of my rear yard. That gets me out to my trailers, chicken coop, and outbuildings. If I had to do any more than that i would want a larger blade. Especially when the snow is sloppy and it takes more time to move it around.

Have you considered Edge Tamers? They really allow your loader to become an idiot-proof snow removal monster. I picked mine up a few years ago and they've really impressed me; 3 winters on my Deere 1025R, and when I sold that I kept the Edge Tamers. Amusingly enough I purchased 3 back then, but only needed 2; with the 66" bucket on the Kioti I picked up I might actually need the 3rd.

When I first bought them I had friends talk a little bull, calling them b**ch slippers; I use the term with pride when talking about them because the Edge Tamers proved themselves over and over again.

For what it's worth, I plow with a 7.5ft repurposed Meyers plow on a QA mount. I cut the A frame down to get it closer to the tractor, as I pin the pivot (usually angled left). No problem pushing wet snow or up to 12" of light snow. Before the Meyer plow I actually used a 9ft Western that I borrowed from my father. That worked, but heavy snow would push the front of the tractor sideways.

I would say you should be safe in the 6ft range. You'll want to clear enough space so that your tires stay clear even in turns. I would even look at 7ft pushers or an 7.5ft plow.

I have a 66 inch bucket. 2 works just fine for me and I plow a lot of snow with my tractor

Congrats on the tractor, that's a very nice tractor! I love MF tractors. Keep that fuel filter clean as when it cycles the DPF it uses a LOT of fuel I hear and if the filter is dirty and it starves during a burn it is not a good thing for your tractor. Where are the pics of this said tractor?

I have a CID 72" pusher designed for the compact tractors. Not as tall as others. I have the back drag as well. Works fine for me here in east central WI.

My tractor is a similar size and I use a 7’ blade with side plates and can push a lot of wet slush before it bogs down. I’d say 6’ would be a good size to not overwhelm or twist your loader.
