New L 5030 what do y\'all think?

Hey y'all,

I'm new to the whole farming thing. I just joined the boards, and I'm looking forward to learning from your experience.

I've recently bought 17.5 acres. Currently it's being used to graze cattle, but I'd like to change it eventually to run goats, using about 6 acres for a tree farm.

I've decided that I'm probably going to need a tractor for all the fun stuff that'll need to be done. From what I've read here on the boards and the internet I really like Kubota. I've been looking at the L 5030 and the deal that I've found is as follows:

R-4 industrial tires
LA 853 Front end loader with in cab joystick (Kubota FEL)
Skid steer type quick connect coupler
72" heavy duty loader bucket
Rhino 72" rotary cutter (can take up to 2" saplings)
42" pallet forks
Round bale spear
72" Brush Hog box blade with scarifiers

total price $34479
zero percent financing for 36 months

A couple of questions--First, does this seem like a good deal? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Secondly, am I over or underbuying implements? I don't want to buy something that I'm not going to need, yet I'd like to have what I need available.

Thanks for your input!

Re: New L 5030 what do y\'all think?

BCF, All right another L5030 member. OK let's go through the shopping list:
Good choice on the tires, I have them and are are working great, In my sugar sand land. If you have mesquite or other similar long thorn bush/trees you might want to consider getting "multi seal" or an equivalent sealer in them.

I am assuming this is an "HST" cab which is nice, very nice.

You are getting the same loader, bucket and quick connect that I have, they are working very good for me. My tooth bar sure is nice for clearing brush and carrying long things.

You are getting the HD Rhino, If it is the "TW72" which I have it will cut 2" with ease. It is a heavy mower and you will need to leave the FEL on when mowing. If you have a lot of 2" brush the mower is great if not it might be an overkill and you might want to consider the SE.

The 72" Box blade can be handled with ease. What about the 2 or 3 extra remotes and T&T?

I don't have forks or a spear so I really can't comment on them.

IF:
The price break down is about 31K-32K for the tractor - good
box blade and mower is about $2,700 - good
spear and forks $$?

Looks like you are getting a good deal.

Congratulations! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Txdon,

Thanks for the info. By the way, what is T&T? Also, I guess the extra remotes would be extra hydraulic lines for running accessories? Are those very useful?

Re: New L 5030 what do y\'all think?

Nelson, I would sacrifice many things if it meant having vs not having Top and Tilt or TnT. By having a top link, the extendable rod that sits atop the upper position of the 3 point hitch, that is able to extend or retract via a hydraulic cylinder, you have a terrific ability to manipulate how a attachment funtions. While the top link and tilt cylinder with it's respective valve and hoses/quick couplers is expensive, the bonus in what you can do with your tractor is immense. In your situation, a L5030 or even smaller would seem to be adequate. A tractor like the L4330 could easily spin a 72" brush mower. I have a L3830 that has no issues with a 84" finish mower. Ask a bunch of questions here. You should be able to come up with the right combo for your needs with a little help. Rat...

Johnson Cty doesn't ring a bell. What is the county seat? Welcome to TBN, the more Texans the better. I can't comment on the pricing as I am not going that large for my 20 acres. I am waiting on the delivery of an L3130HST, R4s, with LA723 loader with quick attach and HD bucket. I am getting 3 remotes to control a grapple on the bucket, a hydraulic top link and a tree shear attachment for the loader. Definitely get 3 remotes and the quick attach option for the loader.

Re: New L 5030 what do y\'all think?

Welcome to TBN!

The Kubota Grand L 5030 is certainly quite a tractor. I have a 3430 HSTC with cab, hydro, 723 FEL, skid steer mount (an absolute must), 72" HD bucket, pallet forks, 72" RR snowblower, 72" Rotary mower, 90" RFM and 84' RR blade. I have plenty of power (engine, hydraulics and transmission), cab that is second to none, and feature laden to my heart's content.

I went with the big turf tires (12 something on the front and 44-18 x 20 on the rear). Floats across the lawn and so far no traction problems. I even plowed my neighbors 2 acre garden with his 2-16 Dearborn plow.

As I said earlier, the L5030 is quite a tractor. I doubt that you would ever be disappointed with this selection.

Re: New L 5030 what do y\'all think?

Txbaylea,

Johnson County is just south of Tarrant County (Ft. Worth) We currently live in Arlington, and the land we have is just south of us in Johnson County.

Thanks, everyone for the input. This is a tough decision. I really want to get the best use from our investment in the land and equipment. (but, I also think it'll be a lot of fun to mess around with heavy machinery /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif)

So, y'all think the Top and Tilt and remote hydraulics are a good idea?

again, thanks,

Re: New L 5030 what do y\'all think?

Thanks everyone for your input and information. I've gone ahead and done it! Bought the L5030 with all the stuff mentioned above and with a top and tilt kit. (I figure if I need a remote for another implement I'll just get it later.) I'm getting it from Zimmerer Kubota in Fort Worth, and they've been very helpful. I should be getting it delivered sometime late this week or early next week. Now, I've got to actually learn how to use this thing /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I'll be sure to post photos.

I would suggest that you get all three remotes at the same time as I m doing on my L3130. Remotes 2 and 3 require fewer parts and are therefore less costly and the addded labor is small. I don't know how they will approach it with a cab but on my unit they took off the right wheel and fender for access. I got 3 remotes for just about twice the cost of the first. Enjoy your tractor - waiting is hell.

Re: New L 5030 what do y\'all think?

interesting info. I am just stepping in to this forum and will be moving to a very small farm - 7 acres in Jan. About 4 of it is used for pasturing and I'm trying to figure out inexpensive tractor/mower options. I looked at a 1985 Ford 1100 with a finish mower (she wanted 3k though will probably take less) and I think it will be too light for the job. I've been told that a 20-24hp Nortrac might fit the bill though not sure where it can be sreviced (I'm in the Ft Worth, TX area). Kubota has a great name and the current owner of the property has a 30hp though that would be way out of the price range I'm thinking of. Definitely want to come in under 10 and used is fine. Not sure if a front end loader would be a necessity though it seems like it would be a nicety. Just thought I'd ask for suggestions and opinions and I appreciate them all!
