Hello, I am a new tractor/new diesel engine owner. I bought a Zen noh Z1501, which I have been told is equivalent to a Kubota L185 (I understand about the grey market tractors). I bought it from my uncle and will be using it to cut brush and spread dirt, other things around the house, I only have about 4 acres to tend to. The tractor has about 1300 hours on it, my uncle bought it from the local JD dealership about 2 months ago and decided it was not what he wanted (his health did not allow him to use it as much as he had hoped), so I bought it from him for $2250. The first thing that I feel that I should do is change out my fluids, since I have no idea when they were changed last.
So from what I have read here on the boards... Kubota recommends UDT fluid? The hydraulics and the transmission use the same fluid? Does anyone with an L185 know how much fluid I would need... ie the capacity of the tractor?
I am planning on using a 15W-40 oil... is this appropriate for this size/age tractor? I live in Coastal Mississippi where it gets hot and humid and sometimes the air can be a bit salty. And if so.. .does anyone know the capacity as to how much oil I will need to purchase to fill it up?
Also, I noticed a leak under the gear shift, on the top side, right under the base of the gear shift. It was a rather substantial leak at the time. My thoughts are that there must be a rubber seal under the shift that has worn and needs to be replaced. This only seemed to happen when I was driving the tractor home from my uncle's house (about a mile away), and I was going close to top speed for the tractor. I have not noticed it while driving at low speeds. Has anyone had this happen before?
I am in the process of tracking down the owner's manuals and service manuals as well as outfitting with ROPS. I appreciate any help.
