New John Deere 5085E

I stopped by to look at the new JD 5085E yesterday. Compared to the 5083E, the 5085 hood is MUCH taller for some reason. It makes the tractor look HUGE. I would say it is at least 6ft tall. Maybe it has something to do with the new tier 4 engine...I don't know.

I must admit, however, that the 5085E engine was smoothest and quietest diesel tractor engine I have ever heard!!! I wonder how the price will compare with the 5083E??

I bought a 5085E the last of August. I have put about 25 hours on it so far doing loader work and bush hogging. It is extremely quiet in the cab. My wife called me on my cell phone and didn't know I was in the tractor bush hogging. it does have a higher hood compared to the 5083E but so far it hasn't caused me any problems. With the extra horsepower I now have I'm definately going to have to upgrade from a 10' bush hog to a 15' one. It just plays with the 10 footer.

Here's one next to my 5075E sitting on the lot back in Sept. The 5085E hood IS noticeably higher. And yes, I believe it is from the T4 emissions requirements on the exhaust / intake system.

Also, I am seeing new 5085E's on TractorHouse.com for $47-$50K. (w/FEL)

New 5083E's for around the same price.

when i was looking at JD tractors (bought a 5055) the JD salesman said that all the space under the hood but on top of the engine was for the tier 4 emission stuff, guess that is not quite true
