First time poster, here. As the owner of a 1957 Oliver Super 66 I didn't need a big loader and backhoe unit.(It is big, old, slow and tired, but digs big holes in a hurry which is why we bought it
I needed a smaller unit than the Oliver but wanted to be able to use the "new" tractor to access local firewood areas and local neighbor hood yards to cut trees for firewood in the yards of landowners wanting a larger yard. Thus preventing turf damage and a narrow width were important requirements. Four wheel drive was a requirement as conditions in firewood cutting areas get kind of muddy at times. Enter a Craigslist ad with a 2008 John Deere 2305 for sale with a bad hydraulic pump. A perfect answer to my needs. It runs perfectly. Now to make it go!It needs HST tranny work. (It is not a job for those who aren't mechanically inclined)
However I have a good case and PTO parts, unlike many failures on these units.
As is so often the case, the tranny fan is broken. None of the fan blades had even a 1/2 inch of blade left on the hub. I have no idea when it got broken but I bought the tractor with 864.9 hours.
The hydraulic pump is fine. Perfect condition except for one shim which I think was damaged at the dealership when being reassembled after being disassembled for inspection The hydraulic idler gear bearings, yes, both of them, were completely shot. As in no bearings left. No cage left. And the gear was left to flop around in its area. (That leaves the hydraulic pump undriven and there fore no hydraulics working). Those loose bearings, and the bearing cage material were now free to go anywhere and caused gear damage. I am hoping to find a broken casing HST tranny with good useable gears. Year is unimportant, as I don't need the PTO gears.Scammers will be weeded out. Really appreciate you taking the time to read this. Thanks so much in advance. Art I can be contacted at 5senivabears@acsalaska.net
