There have been a few discussions lately regarding US$$ vs CDN$$ pricing. To date, any time I've ever used the "Build Your Own" configurator all pricing has been in US$$.

Happened to be looking on there about 1/2 hour ago for something and the configurator opened with a screen that gave a choice for either US$$ or CDN$$ prices.

As an example - Base 3320 is US$$ 17,889 and CDN$$ 18,962 an unadjusted difference of 1,073. The posted "BUY" rate at TD Bank Thu Mar 27 18:05:02 EDT 2008 is 1.044. At a rate of 1.044 the US$$ value converts to CDN$$ 18,676 an effective difference of CDN$$ 286.

To me, this looks like good news for Canadians by providing a more level playing field. If this is as it looks, the main problem now is convincing the CDN dealer to talk a fair discount.

It looks like Canadians would be better using the converted US rate instead of the Canadian pricing on JD's site.

Regardless of which is the better conversion, now a potential CDN purchaser can walk into a CDN JD store with some idea as to CDN MSRP rather than being totally at the mercy of the store to tell him the MSRP number.

Well it is nice to finally see JD willing to post prices for Canadian dealers.

Using the "build your own" I just priced out a 3320 with loader and hoe for $CAD $33,900 (Canadian $ closed at 98.17 on Friday) so about $33,280 converted. For those changing money at the bank the rate would be slightly worse.

Same set up using the build your own for $US is $30,100

I had a quote from a US dealer for
$27,500 but once he found out I am Canadian he said he had to add the new 7% JD surcharge for Canadians. Needless to say he was not happy to loose a sale because of the new JD policy
Even with that added its still only $29,425

I do not expect the Canadian dealers to give much discount from the MSRP and do not be surprised if they are even higher by the time they start adding all the BS freight, prep, etc

Wait until you see how many "Ya Buts" they throw at us by using all the add on's they can.

In my opinion, "Ya Buts" are a problem in both Canada and USA. If dealers won't deal that's a local problem and doesn't have much to do with MSRP. On my purchase the only "Ya Buts" was Tax.

Obviously the 7% surchage is meant to discourage cross border shopping and becomes part of the decision process if considering a green purchase.
