Has anyone else noticed that Lowes website has a couple of pics of the new 100 series Deeres that they will be selling in the spring. I believe these are some of the best pics I've seen yet of the new styling theme Deere is going to for their L&G lineup. If anyone has some info on changes to the GX series I'd be very interested, as the time is near to replace our 345.

You can see the pics here

I didn't know that Lowe's was going to start carrying JD. I wonder if they will still sell Cub Cadet as well?

Yes they did, and I could not be happier! Word is that Cub refused to further cheapen their product to meet the price points that lowes wanted.

Rumor is that Deere has been having a hard time staying in at Home Depot. That may change soon too.

You probably ought to read this CUB thread where it was pretty clear that Lowes dropped CUB because of quality issues and picked up Deere. It was also apparent that the quality issues were due to Lowes poor assembly rather than any CUB quality issues. Likely CUB was loosing money because of repairs brought on by Lowes setup problems and Lowes was losing money because of returns

Why Deere thinks Lowes will be any better at setting up Deere mowers than CUB mowers, I don't know. Maybe they come with more preassembled at the factory or something.

In either case, I think it a rather cheap shot to say that deere is willing to cheapen their product while CUB is not. I mean, why say something like that. It's pretty clear it's not true. Or were you just poking fun? Fact is that people are more and more unwilling to pay for quality, but it's an issue for the whole industry.

Deere decided (right or wrong) to offer a less expensive riding mower option. They also decided to offer them through Big Box stores (again, right or wrong), but lower price usually means you get less. I think that correlation goes with any brand tractor.

There's lots of rumor out there. My info came from our Cub District Rep. I should have clarified "cheap" - i think there was preasure to come out with things like gear drive tractors which they have completly gone away from. Your exactly right, for the most part you get what you pay for.

Deere, Cub ect. have to play the big box game- we live in a very disposable society- remember when you grand parents bought a new "davenport" that was the last one they bought and they held on to it for 50 years- today people by a new couch every few years- (I am using averages here) It is imperative that old school companies develop price point products to meet the demand for the new buying trends- the down side is the price point product is designed to meet a price point vs designed to be the best product possible. Many people are hoodwinked by marketing- just look at the horsepower wars- I would say in less than 10 years you will see big box lawn / garden tractors with 30+ HP. The market is too big for these companies to ignore. Deere has some of the best brand recognition in the world and I hope they don't let Lowes run all over them- Generations have loved Deere because they made **** good products for a long time and we remember our Grand fathers and fathers talking about them- now a new generation is coming up and the last thing Deere needs is kids watching there fathers kicking and cursing there big box price point product- just my opinion-

i know because of being in the business that there will no longer be a John Deere L,LX,GT,GX, or X series it will now be the 100, 300, 500, and 700 series no more letters. There will be less models and they will be all newly styled. 100 is the L series replacement. 300 is the LT, and LX replacement. 500 is the GT, and GX replacement. and the replacement for the X series is the 700

Sounds like you know your stuff,
except there will be an "X" designation for everything except
the 100 series..
X300 Select Lawn tractors
X500 Select Multi-Terrain tractors
X700 Ultimate Lawn and Garden tractors

4wd will be available in X700 ultimate series,
4 Wheel Steer available in all X tractors..

Watch for more promo of the 4 wheel steering, as
a combatant to the residential zero turn mowers that
most other manufacturers have. At least till Deere
comes out with theirs.. just not sure when.

X700's to ship soon, as X400 inventory is about gone.
(at least from the factory)

other new stuff will come as existing inventory dries up.

I was at Lowes yesterday and checked out the new John Deere lineup they are carrying. They had 4 models on display:

102 - 5 speed, 17 hp, 42" cut, $1,399
115 - auto, 19 hp, 42" cut, $1,599
125 - auto, 20 hp, 42" cut, $1,799
190c - auto, 25 hp, 54" cut, $2,999

They all had Briggs & Stratton engines.
