New Holland TC45DA, John Deere 345
Even though I bought this used tractor about 3 years ago and currently has about 950 hours, as a newbie to tractors at the time, I never realized until this past summer that I might have a serious problem. When using the FEL, I have to get a running start several times (running @2500 rpm and in 4WD) to get a full bucket of dirt from a pile of loose dirt. Tractor has industrial tread tires, not needing replacement yet but not near new condition either. Closest New Holland dealer (about 70 miles away) tells me I might need to bring it in for him to check with a dynomometer. He says the tractor should not have a problem loading a full bucket on the first attempt. Any thoughts from anyone before I have to take my tractor in for service? Thanks guys.

1. Load your tires
2. Use rear weight as counter ballast ie. heavy 3ph implement
2. Try using 4WD and lower gear

Taking a run up is going to break something...sooner than later

I had never sat on a tractor until 3 months ago and even I can tell you that. Tortoise always beat Hare. Slow and easy, no running starts.

You should have some sort of rear ballast so you gain plenty of rear traction. Low range and slow (light on the hydro pedal or low gear on non-hydro) will give you the most power, not a running start which can damage your tractor and loader. and then as the others have said, start the bucket low and level and gradually curl it as it cuts into pile (and raise if needed) to fill the bucket.

Is the OP in the High gear range?

Try taking it out of 4WD. If the rear tires spin when you are trying to scoop a bucket full - it is your technique. If not, perhaps you have a power problem.
