Hello,

Im new to tractors, not sure what is going on.

I was pushing around dirt with the tractor for about 2 hours. The needle on the temp gauge was half way between the green that is just before the red portion. It will go down under no load.
However, at the 2hr mark the tractor started making an odd noise, I couldn't make it out, so I stopped to listen with the engine running and all of a sudden the engine died. I had been operating at 2600rpms

I read the other threads about the seat, fuse, and solenoid issues...however, I have power to the tractor, it cranks when the key and it turn over but it only stayed lit for .5 seconds and then dies again.

There is roughly 1/4 tank of diesel left.

I would greatly appreciate any guidance.

Regards,
Shepherd

I went back out after an hour, I started up the tractor, it ran for at 500 - 1000rpm for 20 seconds, then cranked it up to 1500 rpm after 5 seconds, it didn't like that and started to fade. I then push the throttle down to 1000rpm moved the tractor 30 feet and died. Afterwards, I took the fuel filter off there was some debris inside along with about a 1/4" of fuel, cleaned it out and put back on. I tried to restart the tractor again, it cranks over but wont start.

Be patient - the experts will arrive before long.

Where in PA are you? I also have a new-to-me TC45D.

I live in Beaver County by the Ohio border about 4hrs from the farm show complex in Harrisburg.
How do you like your tractor so far?
What did you have before?

My quick initial estimate is you have a fuel starvation issue, hence only being able to run at low rpm and then died.

I believe your fuel filter bowl should be close to full, not 1/4 full. When you removed the bowl to clean it and after you replaced it did you bleed each injector to ensure they are each getting fuel?

If you have not bled the injectors I would make sure your fuel lines to the filter and tank are clean. I would replace the fuel filter, put clean fuel in the tank and bleed the injectors.

Good luck and let us know what you find.

I agree completely. I think there was a fuel starvation problem and when the fuel filter was changed the bowl was probably not refilled and air bled off the top of the filter. If that is not done, the air bleed screw on top of the injector pump will need to be opened to bleed off air. Also, you might have a clog in the lines going to the filter or trash in the fuel tank blocking the fuel feed line out. All these problems have been reported in different threads on TBN.

From your description, I don't believe you have an electrical problem. I think it's fuel starvation. Making sure the lines are all clear and proper technique for fuel filter replacement are key events when troubleshooting fuel starvation problems.

As this is somewhat new to me I did some basic investigation and thought it would be better to ask for help before poking around further.

I only removed the bowl to inspect the filter and clean the junk out. Im not sure if the fuel filter should be replaced. How do you tell if the filter should be replaced? The fins look clean for the most part.
Im not sure how to bleed each injector. Any pointers?
Also I have not inspected the lines or tank but will do so this week. Ive not done this before but
Ill try to figure it out. Should I pull the tank and flush or do think using a shop vac will work?
How much psi should be used to clean the lines?
Thank you for the advice.
