I am looking for a 35 to 40HP tractor. I found these 2 New Holland TC40 DA or NEW HOLLAND WORKMASTER 37. The Workmaster is a 2016 for 19,800 and the TC40 is a 2008 for 17,900 wit 300hrs. Besides the 3hp difference. Is the 40 a more heavy duty tractor. Or, are there any other major differences?

TC40 is a Shibaura-built tractor. I am a huge fan of Shibaura tractors dating back to the Ford compacts of the late 1970's. The TC40 is a great machine. If the machine you are looking at has a loader, hst and super steer, it is probably priced ok - maybe a little high. Without those features, it may be a bit on the spendy side.

The WM 37 is built by NH with a Shibaura engine. It will have Tier 4 emissions and the associated downsides.

Looking at specs on tractordata.com, the TC40 will lift around 500 lbs more at the 3 pt. Also, the TC40 will be heavier and quite a bit larger in person. The WM37 has 11.2-24 rear tires and the TC40 will have 14.9-24 rears - that's a substantial size difference. Loader lift advantage goes to the TC, as well.

I believe that the TC40 is much more tractor than the WM37, and I would buy it over the newer tractor. The 2 grand savings is a bonus.

Thanks. I needed exactly that info. We will be running a 6ft rototiller for now. We are looking at the taylor way. But this dealer said the Bush Hog is better.

Hello Mogrod,

I own a 2006 TC40 since new and have been nothing but pleased with it. I do not know a whole lot about the Workmaster but if I am correct, it is a basic tractor (nothing wrong with that if that is all you need). The TC40 is/was a premium tractor. The TC40 is a heavier duty tractor. I looked at a 37 HP Workmaster a couple of years ago and personally was not impressed with it. I do not think they are built as well as the older New Hollands. If it has the Shibaura engine that would be plus. I think for the money you will get more bang for your buck with the TC40. This is just my opinion on it. Maybe someone who owns a Workmaster 37 can give you a review on what they like/dislike about them.

Biggest Differences: TC40 rear lift capacity is 2400 lbs vs 1800 lbs on the work master. TC40, 35 PTO vs 28/29 PTO on the work master. TC40 total hydraulic flow 14.9 gpm. vs 12.4 gpm. on the Workmaster. The TC40 also has the deluxe 3 pt. assembly vs a basic 3 pt. assembly on the Workmaster.

Do these units have a quick disconnect for the bucket? What is the deluxe 3 pt assembly?

I made sure mine came with the quick disconnect bucket. Mine did not come with the New Holland loader. It came with a Bush Hog loader. You would have to see what loader and bucket the seller has on it. I would think they come with the quick disconnect. Most of the ones I have seen besides mine had the quick disconnect buckets.

What I would call a deluxe 3 pt assembly consists of extendable lower link arms and telescoping stabilizer links on both sides. It makes attaching 3 pt. implements a whole lot easier. I think these two items should come standard on every new tractor that is sold.
