TC29
I purchased a tc29 a few months back close to 400 hours. It's leaking hydraulic fluid out of the weep hole in the clutch housing. My research has led me to believe it's the input shaft seal or fwd seal. The clutch is slipping too and im assuming its because of the oil leak. I started to split the tractor and tried to split where transmission meets clutch housing. I can't seem to full separate, looks like the shift rods hang up in clutch housing. I've pulled the shift lever too but no luck. Will I be able to split here or am I going to have to split at clutch and engine first?

Typically you access that seal through splitting between engine and the clutch bell housing. This is where you can also replace the clutch. Your tractor may be different. Do you have a work shop manual??

Yes, but even if I split it that way I still don't see how I would separate clutch housing and trans. Maybe it will make sense when I open it up. The manual says rotate shift lever up to detach detent bal on rods or something like that.

If you could show us some pics it would certainly help us to diagnose your situation. Or perhaps someone on here knows you particular model better than I and can chime in.

Update, I split it between clutch housing and engine. I still can't see where to split clutch housing from the transmission. The shift rods have bolts that hold them to some pieces for the actual shifter. Even after taking the bolt out of the top one it seems like I would have to get a puller to get it off. Once thats out I can go after the other bolt on the other rod. Seems like it should be easier to access and separate. The repair manual doesn't mention it at all and just says pull it apart.

Here is a close up of the 2 rods.

From what I can see from the pics it looks like you do not have fwd on this tractor. It also looks like you may have to remove the bell housing to get at the seals. I had a look at the parts diagram and it looks like there is a gasket accessible from the other side of the bell housing. I will provide you with a link to the website I found. Go to page 4 where it says clutch assembly. There seem to be a number of different arrangements as far as transmission and pto configurations so not sure which one you have. I do not know your model well enough to offer too much assistance unfortunately.

I hope this helps!!

This one should link to page 4:

Appreciate the diagrams, the bell housing can only be separated a couple inches and it hits the shift rod keepers, there's a bolt that goes through the shift rod you have to get one off then you get access to the other rod. The bottom pic above shows what I'm talking about it's the square keepers with the circles in them. I've got one bolt out but it doesn't want to come free. Looks like I'll need a pulley to press it out.

I think I know which parts you mean but it is somewhat difficult for me to understand without actually being there. I see a rod going across at the top with a coupler and some wires wrapped around it. Would removing that allow better access to the assembly you are trying to remove?? Personally I wouldn't try forcing anything without knowing for sure that you are not damaging something on the other side of the bell housing. Perhaps a quick call to the dealership might help...??

I am sorry I am not much more help. I understand your frustration!! I've been there too!!!

Follow up help needed! Got the tractor split at front of the bell housing got everything apart and replaced clutch, rear main seal, input shaft seal, shift rod seals and a freeze plug like cover on back side of clutch housing where it meets trans. Put it all back together and it still leaks! Any thoughts?
