new holland 1620 (broken) :/ 200? Tc30
So, my '97 NH 1620 w/7108 loader has a defective loader control valve. Apparently this valve (a Kayaba 2 spool single lever w/power beyond) is not available anymore new and I have searched numerous salvage yards. Any advice on retrofitting with a generic (Prince?) valve?

Why do you think the loader control valve is defective?

I thought I had a problem with my fel valve control. Turned out to be defective quick disconnect couplers. There should be a TSB out on the couplers, according to my field service tech.

I've been chasing this problem for quite some time. Resealed cylinders, changed out quickconnects etc., but the 3rd time I had the valve out of the tractor I noticed the defect. The boring under one of the power beyond check valves had been drilled too deep and over time had broken out into the spool journal below. The result is that with the two lines running the bucket circuit disconected, both have high pressure fluid when the valve is actuated. Love to find a direct replacement, but that seems impobable.......any suggestions welcome.

Have you talked to a dealer about a direct replacement? They might have a recommenation.Do you have any specs on the valve? As long as the replacement can handle the flows and pressures that you have you can probably use any joystick valve that you can fit on it. Have you looked at Surplus Center? they usually have them.

Ken at Long Lane tractor in PA has a dismantled 1620 with a 7108 loader that appears to still have its loader control valve:

Nice folks over there. I've bought some salvage parts from them for my 1520. They were friendly, helpful, and the prices were reasonable. I wouldn't hesitate to do business with them again. They ship anywhere, too.

That would've been perfect, but I talked to Ken and he wasn't interested in separating the valve from the loader......

So, I've been back and forth with my local dealer and they have no suggestions. As far as my own research, it seems like most aftermarkets (Prince, Brand etc.) don't come within a row as far as fitting the requirements. The closest I could find was going back to NH and buying a valve for the succesor to my 1620 (1510?). This looks like it would be the least re-plumbing etc., but pretty costly. Anyone know of a later model machine that might fit this category that parts might be more reasnoble for?

Oh, bummer! :(

There's just too many smart tractor guys (and gals) around here... there has to be someone that's done this or knows what to do.

An open center two spool valve with a power beyond port and an adjustable pressure relief valve will work. You need the adjustable pressure relief valve so you can set it to the factory recommendations. If you do not have an adjustable releif valve there is a good chance you will damage your tractor, loader or yourself. Other than the relief valve being in the loader control valve there is nothing special about the original valve since I do not think they used a regenerative valve in the bucket circuit with the 7108. Even if they did you can live without that feature. Naturally if you go with some other valve you will need to run new lines or hoses to the oil supply block and the quick couplers and a new mounting plate. I doubt if you could find an aftermarket valve that would match up to the ports on the original valve so you could use the original lines. Is it doable, yes, is it practical and cost efficient, that is what you have to decide.
