So I acquired a NH68 baler that’s in perfect working order except the knifes need sharpening. I understand you have to undo the bolt that holds the knitters down then flip them up in order to remove the knife arm for sharpening? Is that right or can it be done without removing the knife arm?

For some reason when I try to flip the knotter up it only goes half way then stops against something hard? Any ideas what this may be?

Lastly the chap who had the baler before me ran it on 12000ft twine but I spoke to someone said to run it on 10000ft twine. What are people’s opinions on which I should use? I’m reluctant to use sisal as my other Massey baler runs on that and its **** expensive, about £65 a pack vs £17 for poly twine

Dad had a NH 66,--same as 68 only older and it would NOT tie with plastic twine!!!!!! --had to use regular twine in it!
You flip the knotters up to work on them, BUT to sharpen the twine knife, dad had a small file to touch them up a couple times a day.--IF they are real dull-- flip the unit up---yes it starts to engage the gears part way up, but keep going and they will stand up for you.
Also there washers under the knives so yo can adjust them to cut only 1 twine and not both--this is the tricky part!lol!!
