Im looking at a 4WD 6610S. Looks like it is about 72 HP at the PTO. I really want a 7610 which should be 87 hp at PTO but am having a hard time finding one. Question is, will the 6610 "easily" handle an 8 or 10 ft drag type shredder? What about a 2 bottom plow??. My pet peve is using equipment that puts a tractor in continuous strain. What are your thoughts on what a 72 HP tractor can "easily" handle?? thanks a million.

The 2 btm plow it will handle very easy, shredder is going to depend on the power required to run it. I've pulled a 4 btm semi mounted plow with th 80 hp 4wd without too many issues, and used a 2 btm as low as 25 hp.

You will definitely feel the power difference on the mower between 72 & 87 HP tractors. Two bottom plow will be easy,I pull 2-16's with a Ford 2000 diesel. The 7610 is about the same as our Oliver 1855 & MF 492 and we use 4-16's or a 4x32in disc plow with these tractors. The equipment you have should determine the size tractor you purchase,or get the tractor then size the equipment accordingly,or like me get a good welder and learn to use it to repair the smaller equipment the larger tractor is going to break. With some mowers ( 8 to 10 ft) in heavy, rank bermuda or bahia a 85-90 pto hp tractor is going to have all it wants, other lighter, thinner grass you could pull a much larger mower and it would be "easy". scrapironford

Buy the 6610 and downshift when the brush is occasionally too heavy...

6610's are great little tractors but you're limited to the hp you can get from it.. Fuel consumption won't be that different and you have the option to use bigger equipment with the 7610 not to mention the lovely sound those little turbo'd 4 cyls make...I always felt they were a bit lifeless without the turbo

I agree with that, these Ford engines had quite a benefit from a turbo. Normally they smoke all the time, and waste fuel. With turbo they are able to turn this fuel into power so consumption wont increase actually.

I have never driven a 7610 but i'd take a 6610 over a 7710 any day, the 6610 has much better visbility due to the smaller bonnet and lower overall build height. Much more utility than the 7710 which was a field tractor. (I am assuming the 7610 is about the same as a 7710)

If it helps, I believe most of your light to medium duty 10ft pull behind brush cutters only require a minimum of 40hp. 10ft lift types normally require around 55hp

I was going to add that a 7710 would be even better..Haha
I like the 7710 more for a smoother ride and clearance for baling or spraying and just has the feel of a bigger tractor like a 8210 or a TW..

I disliked the 7710 over the 6610 i drove, mostly because of the much stiffer gearbox.

we use 6610s all the time with batwing mowers and have pulled a three point four bottom plow with a 6640 4wd witch is the same as a 6610 4wd other then it has the fuel take in front of the radiator and different sheatmetal and u really cannt tell the difference between a 6610 and a 7610 cause they are the same weight and both 4wd there while be little to gain as far as draw bar pulling power we run a 5600, 6610, 7710, and 7910, far hayin and paster mowing and they all pull a batwing mower pretty good but ofcourse the 7910 pulls the best cause its a six cylinder
