Been looking a while for used 4 x 4 or 4 x 5 balers. Let a decent 5400 Vermeer Rebel get away from me (although it was considerably more money) . Now I have my sights on a New Holland 630 4 x 4 baler. From what I have been able to gather I should be okay producing 200 bales a year with it? My place is flat as a pancake, so no issue with hills. Tractor is a Kioti DK45SE. With a loader attached I think it is around 5500 lbs. If I put ballast in the tires I think I could be over 6000. I'm guessing the baler is around 3800 lbs with a bale in it.

Thanks

Stu

If you are truly a flatlander I think you will get by. No land speed records, but you will get by.

Picked it up yesterday. It is a little rough around the edges, but I think she'll be fine. Very simple machine.

We run a Ford 552 5x5 round baler behind our Kubota L3830 which has ~35 PTO HP, it doesn't really notice that it is back there until you get the bale over 4' in diameter, then you can tell that it is there, but it can handle it.
Plan on replacing bearings on the baler, we have had 2 go out so far and from what I understand, its a regular occurrence.
I'm not sure if you have run the round baler before, but if you haven't, you need to make sure to get the edge of the pickup all the way over to the edge of the windrow frequently to make sure that you get enough hay at the edges of the bale. If you don't do this, the bale will have soft corners and you will have a very hard time getting string to stay on the ends of the bale ( I learned that one from experience, we usually make three to four foot wide windrows for our square baler and as I was weaving back and forth to fill the round baler and keep the bale level, I wasn't getting the much hay into the last 6" on the outside edges of the pickup. That caused the corners on the bale to be very soft and they would not hold the twine).

I ran a 630 for years on 42 PTO HP. Run it now on 64 PTO HP.

book says 35 PTO min.

If you are on flat ground doing 4 MPH or so, you will have no issues.

I used to bale about 4.4 MPH on 42 PTO HP, had downshift if heading up a steeper hill with an almost full chamber. Hay always got baled!

Hey buckeyefarmer. Couple of questions. How do you adjust the height of your pickup? The guy I bought my from has it rigged. He has a small come-a-long attached to the bracket that holds the pickup wheel. He showed me where he likes to run it at and the pickup wheels were no where close to contacting the ground. But I have also seen some 630s online that don't even have pickup wheels.

Second question. If your baler has pickup wheels, do they stay in contact though sharp turns or is there a way to lift them.

PS, I am ordering a set a manuals today.

Thanks

If you refering to gathering wheels, i dont have those. We drop the pickup down so it rides on the small tires.. Didnt get a manual with mine.

Okay. Yes, no gathering wheels. So you let the rubber tires ride on the ground at all times? And they do okay through turns? I don't like how he had the weight of the pickup hanging on a cable from just one side. And like I said, I see a few 630s online that don't even have the small rubber wheels.

Here is a picture off the net.

The chains on either side of mine are missing. I think they are just for transport anyway. I'll see if my tires wheel adjust down as they are all the way up on my baler.
