New Holland 469 TROUBLE

Hi everyone,
I have a NH 469 that has given me trouble since the day I bought it. I am constantly shearing the bolt and then losing the bushing in the sickle head. I have replaced missing teeth, aligned guards so that nothing is catching, and still this happens. I have been told by a farmer friend that it is probably my wobble box going bad. How do I know without bringing it in to have it looked at? Is there something (other than this) that would be a sure sign? Thanks for the help and info....

Hi there. Welcome to this Forum. You'll get a lot of ideas and suggestions.

Here are mine:

The sickle drive bolt is NOT a soft bolt and should be a hard, high strength fine threaded cap screw type. This is necessary to get the bushing to twist, not the joint. You should be able to easily slide the cutter bar into the side of the machine and all the way through if the guards and knives and hold-down clips are properly assembled and adjusted.

To check the wobble box, remove the knive and loosen the drive belt. There should be very little play in the vertical and lateral directions of the pitman arm. These are mostly tapered roller bearings. The procedure is to tighten the castle nut until end play is removed and then add 1 more flat. There is a ball bearing in the support pin, though. You shouldn't be losing the bushing, either. That bushing should be clamped in pretty heavily.

Take a look at the parts breakdown. It very easy to take apart, even in the field if necessary.

The bolt is:

88852 BOLT Screw, Cap, HH, G8, 1/2"-20 x 3-1/4"

Make sure you have the bolt in correctly. Its nut UP. And, tighten it in mid travel of the Pitman arm.
