This one is baffling me and the mechanic.
New Holland 4635, have never really had much trouble with it.
When to start it a week ago and would quite turn over fast enough so boosted it and away it goes.
Drove for a while, shut it off and put battery on charger for a few hours.
Wouldnt start after that, just a click, tried to boost and could just get it to turn over slowly.
Put new battery and new starter on still same issue.
Dash lights shut off after I try and start, they wont come on again until I disconnect battery and reconnect. If I try to start it after this then they go out again and repeat process.
Mechanic tried connecting batter straight to starter, and boosted with another battery it would just turn once or twice.
There is 12 volts at starter, when we turn key it drops to 1 or 2.
Took starter out of tractor wired it straight to battery and it engaged.
Today I pulled the tractor and jump started it. Worked fine, parked it, shut it off and I get nothing again.

I am thinking there is something that is draining the power when I engage starter?

You have a bad connection or cable to the battery or a ground. It makes enough connection to read voltage but can not carry any current.

You can test by taking a set of jumper cables and connect the red lead on big starter wire and the other red lead on the positive post of the battery and try to start it. If it starts, then the positive lead of the tractor is the problem.

If it doesn’t start then do the same test from the body of the starter to the negative post on the battery then try to start it again. If it starts then the problem is in the negative lead.

Check and clean all connection points then replace the cables if cleaning does not work.

Thanks I will give that a try.
We did connect an extra battery straight to the starter with no luck.

Turns out it was a rotten power cord. When I changed the battery I had to bend it. I likely broke a lot of the cables inside apart cause they were rotted.
