New NH 450 Roll Belt 4x5 baler quickly builds up excessive amounts of hay in front of the belts to the point where the belts are totally obscured. This baler also leaves a pile of fines and hay as each bale is ejected. Appreciate any comments / suggestions for fixes from other 450 owners. My dealer has been very slow to respond to these issues. My old 648 and my neighbors JD balers do not have these issues when baling our hay.

Seems as though I replied to this before. Your forage is too dry. Change your bailing time to when there is a bit of dew on it as the forage is shattering.

All the RB450’s are doing this. Annoying as hell.

Yes, you have and I thank you for your advice. However, my forage is not too dry, my old baler had none of these issues and my neighbor's baler also does not behave this way, all baling the exact same hay that gives problems to the 450. I closely monitor my hay moisture content and it routinely runs around 18%. I'm looking for some fresh ideas here. BTW, another 450 owner said his machine did the same thing and he just returned it so, while informative it wasn't very helpful.

I apologize then but why I traded mine in for the Kubota BV as I don't care for NH's net wrapper system nor do I care for their backup twine wrapper either and so far the Kubota has performed beyond my expectations.

Almost bought a Klaas Variant which is also a European style, fully enclosed belt system but didn't, because the nearest dealer is too far away

One thing I like about the enclosed European design versus the NH is you don't bale in a cloud of shattered chaff all the time plus it's easier to clean afterwards. Blow them off with compressed air, lube the grease fitting and call it good.

The NH net load system with it's center tail was always a PITA and the first couple rounds were never edge to edge whereas the Kubota bailer is side load and even the first bale is fully wrapped and Kubota uses overlapping twine arms that twine a bale much better if you need to twine.

Thanks for the addl detail. Aside from the net wrap which we don't use (twine only) it sounds like the 450 performed OK in your hands. Good to know.

Has to be net here unless I run out of net, mid field bailing, then I'll switch to twine. Reason is, all my rounds are sold ahead of time and they all get handled more than once or twice and many of them are stored outside at my customer's place of business (he raises bucking bulls and owns a PRCA sanctioned rodeo).

Net wrapped (over the edge) rounds, weather much better when left outside (minimal loss from rain or snow) as the net is like a roof on them, whereas twine provides nothing in the way of weathering

My needs are simpler. We grow hay for our horse boarding operation, roll it and shed store it for our own use. Only a small portion gets sold off to help pay for fertilizer, fuel etc. Twine is OK for what we do. I'm hearing from others that the problems we're experiencing are common with the 450s but you didn't seem to experience the hay buildup and excessive fines being dumped with each roll.

Have you attempted to lower pto speed & increase ground speed?

Although not recommended by the manufacturer, yes, lower pto speed and increased ground speed often leads to hay clogs in the pickup, not good. Disturbingly, I'm hearing the 450 has a track record of these problems. Would love to know if anyone has had these same issues with a 450 and have gotten them resolved. If the dealer can't fix this I'm turning this baler back. I don't know anyone of my neighbors with JDs who are having these issues.
