I'm new to posting but have stopped in quite a bit.

I'm hoping someone here can tell me I'm overlooking something.

Our 1920 all of a sudden wont allow full engagement of the PTO with only 600hrs on it.

Lever and linkage are free moving, detents are positive. At the engaged position it's nothing but ugly grinding noise when clutch is let out, and further engagement past that point changes nothing.

Clutch pedal is adjusted for approx. 1" of free travel.

I learned here in another post, that there is a PTO clutch adjustment and havn't exhausted that possibility yet, however I have the suspicion that it ain't gonna help.

Any chance it is just a worn and out of adjustment PTO clutch, before I load the thing up and see exactly how much blood the dealer can squeeze out of a wallet?

On the same note, is there a online Shop manual anyone is aware of?
All I keep getting is manuals for sale.

Thanks!

I dont think the clutch is the culprit since it grinds when you let it out. You have to buy the manuals. They are a lot cheaper than a trip to the dealer.

LOL!!!

Yep. I'm afraid it ain't the PTO clutch and am hoping I'm overlooking something cheaper and quicker than tearing the rear end down.

It's our light GP tractor for tilling mowing and FEL work, and this time of year is when we need it.

The gal operating it the other day went a little too far backing into some heavy brush, and busted an upper lift arm lynch pin, and bent the crap out of a LD Chopper deck. Afterwards is when I get the story "It wont go into gear". LOL!! It's kinda hard to fire family.;)

Any suggestions on who is quickest on mauals and online parts?

The nearest NH stealer makes John Deere look like the Dollar store and ain't exactly prompt about getting parts in.

Thanks!!

I as well think it might not be the pto clutch. the pto clutch is Normally On unless the clutch is fully pressed in. I'd be .looking at the engagement mechanism passed the transmission in the rear diffy. if you have internal over running clutch that might be also culprit.

Thanks JC,

It's kinda lookin that way ain't it.

I gotta get a manual and see if there is a lever linkage adjustment that might be outta whack before I go tearing into things though.

I hate tearing orchard fenders off and on.

Thanks!!

NH has an excellent website with parts breakdown. If you are mechanically inclined you'll be able to find much good info even without service manual. If i get a chance tonight I'll check it to see if you have ORC or not and also engagement mechanism. You really need to exhaust all option and possibilities before even thinking in to tear down.

Thanks JC, I appreciate it.!

I didn't think to look on the NH website for an exploded parts diagram.

I'll be getting a Shop manual, here shortly and wont be tearing onto things without one. Too many ways to get into trouble and make things worse.

Thanks for the heads up on the NH website. I'll dig around on it tonight.
