I am posting this here so more can see than if it were in the front porch or friendly politics...this is not meant to be a political post...just an informative one. It seems with the new system Docs and Hospitals are asking patients to pay their annual deductible all at one time...Here is the article....I thought it important so we don't get shocked next time we go in for an appointment.

That worked. I guess that you can't fault the hospitals for wanting to collect their money. One of the tenets used to originally rationalize universal health care was that it would lower costs as it would reduce all the 'free care" which hospitals were providing.

Parkland Hospital in Dallas is considering paying the premiums of its customers who cannot afford Obamacare. That way, they can bill Obamacare for the healtcare instead of the hospital having to provide care with no compensation. Parkland expects to make back the premiums and also get reimbursed for care. They are simply paying a smaller amount of money so the larger healthcare fund is available to tap.

I often see an older local man headed off to his job at Walmart... working to pay off the bills for his late wife's cancer treatments. He worked hard all of his life, is supposed to be retired and could probably declare bankruptcy; but he wasn't raised that way.

The story says:
And unless it's an emergency situation, Presbyterian Healthcare Services, a nonprofit hospital system based in Albuquerque, New Mexico, requires patients with insurance to pay their deductible, copay and co-insurance at the time of service, and the uninsured pay in full. The hospital has financial assistance available and says on its website that it can reschedule appointments if patients aren't able to pay.

I may be wrong , but depending on what a person is at the doctor for some will walk out of the office, go to the emergency room, and get treatment. Unless it has changed, emergency rooms have to treat you whether you have money or not. That will just incur higher costs for the rest of us.

The whole thing is a sham, or more accurately a ideologic assault on personal liberty. There will be millions who simply cannot afford to participate in this power grab - excessive premiums, astronomical out-of-pocket expenses and huge deductibles. Only the most poor will see a benefit - a free ride - while the working among us will be paying much much more than before. It's all just a crying shame.
