Looking to buy my first tractor(larger than my Cub riding mower. I live on just over and acre but have ~40acres of wooded hunting/play land a few miles away that I own. Looking for something to do some landscaping type work around the house and for some deer plots, bushhogging, small land clearing on the recreational land. Got tractor fever really bad but trying to make the most logical choice. Would love a new CUT but a kindly used one is most likely gonna win out for budget reasons and because I most likely won't put a huge amount of hours on the tractor each year. Looking forward to learning from others with more experience. Thanks in advance!

For your needs look for 13" or more ground clearance, 30-horsepower minimum, 40-horsepower better, four wheel drive and minimum weight of 2,000 pounds, 2,700+ pounds better, including the front end loader.

There is nothing wrong with a used, well maintained diesel tractor. Fall is the best season to buy.

Bush Hog, Disc Harrow, Ratchet Rake and you will be good to go.

Have you visited Tractorhouse.com? Tractorhouse and eBay are web-based national tractor sales sites. There are 582 tractors for sale on eBay at this moment.

Tractors are sold on Craig's List too, but frequent Craig's List tractor scams are reported here.

Welcome to TBN--join the fun:D

Something in the 30-35 hp (pto) range with hydrostatic tranny and power steering would do the trick. Suggest front end loader (FEL) with 5-ft bucket and the skid steer quick attach (SSQA) option to change from the bucket to other implements on the FEL arms.

Also get a pair of rear mounted hydraulic quick disconnects so you can operate two hydraulic cylinders (rams) on implements that need this capability. My Mahindra 5525 has triple rears dealer installed at $700 when I bought the tractor.

R4 rear tires are better for landscaping (less damage to the lawn) but R1 tires are better for jobs requiring lotsa traction (more potential damage to the lawn with this type of rubber).

Start searching nearby dealers that have decent service centers and parts inventory. And get some seat time however you can on different makes/models to find something that feels comfortable and right for you.

Good luck.
