Rainy today; so I went to the library to catch up on my magazine reading.

In one of the magazines, there was an ad for a new Gravely. Guess they're back making them again.

Well the ones I have seen are rebadged Rapids, nice looking machines but oh the price, 7500 for the smallest one and 14,000 for the larger models. I love my Gravely but,,,,,,,,,, I can't justify one at those prices.

Are the newer units diesel powered? Even if they are, still would be hard to pay that kind of money for a 2 wheeled tractor.

No, There powered by Robin engines. - Kris

What's a "Rapid"? And will these use the old Gravely attachemnts? or is it just Ariens using the Gravely name on a totally different piece of machinery?

I found the answers to my question on the Gravely website. Only the smallest model lists a mower as being available, and being able to use older Gravely attachments. The bigger models don't have mowers? And NONE of them lists a tiller attachment? That sure is a crap load of money for a machine to plow or blow snow and operate a rotary broom!

Our local Gravely dealer won't even get one in as he is certain he would never be able to sell it at those prices. Rapid has quite a few implements available, and some look interesting but I have lost the link to the site. Yep to bad they couldn't have been more realistic in the price, guess the ole Comm 12 will have to go another 30 years.

Here's Rapid's website:

Rapid Technic AG, Dietikon, Switzerland

They are hydro machines where as our beloved Gravelys are gear drives. They supossedly stopped making the Gravelys because of cost, but for what a rebadged Rapid cost forget about it and only the little one use Gravely attachments. Your Comm 12 will last another 30 years easy as long as you take care of it . - Kris :D

I am looking at trading of my X475 JD, 54" MMM and 54" plow to get a BCS 852/3 with 38" lawn mower with bagge and snowblower. I hve way too much machine. Total cost will be around $6000. Just looking to simplify. get more room in the garage and really utilize their 38 bagger mower. Any thought or concerns?" Might get a disel. Any others out thre using the 38" lawn mower out thre" with a snow blower package?

Wow thats gonna be a real step "down". I don't have a BCS, but I do have a Gravely with a 30" deck and snowblower, it is the most used piece I have. Guess the real question is what's your appetite for walking, and walking in the hot hot sun? I have 4 acres and I have cut it all with the 2 wheeler, but I would not want to do it every weekend. I use to use the CUT for snow removal but do it all with the 2 wheeler now, but I only have a 250' drive way.

Hey Milkman, how do you like using the sulky? I have a steerable one for the Gravely but it's a real pain unless I'm in a real wide open area

The sulky works just fine, I bought it new in '87 along with a tiller attachment. I still put the mower and sulky on once in a while and mow just for old time sake, but it is slower than my BX. The BCS is just 10 hp, but it does a lot more work than people think it will and in the tiller mode, it is better than anything else I've ever used. I'd really like to have a sickle attachment, maybe I'll run across a used one some day.

If nothing else keep an eye on evil bay I have seen a few there, I have one for the Gravely picked it up for 50 bucks. I have it disassembled to reseal and paint it. Used it a time or two works pretty good. Nice to have around didn't cost much and it's easy to store.
