Hi Folks,

I took position of a new GC2310 this weekend. It seems well built and heavy duty construction for it's size, but I'm new to tractors, so I'll reserve judgement until I've had it a while and put some decent hours on it. I purchased it from out of state, but have a couple of MF dealers within a 30 mile radius from me here in CT.

It came with a little over 1 hour on the odometer and it's up to 3.5 now. The time was spent moving various sizes of tree sections. At the end of few hours of use, I noticed 2 issues I hope someone can shed some light on...
The loader control became sticky in the left and bottom positions. The next morning the stickyness was gone. Is this to be expected? Will it work out with use? The dealer said the loader control has a lock position on it which I'm getting into, but It only happened when well warmed up and only in 2 of the four positions.

Also, there was a tiny (few drops) of hydra fluid on the floor mat near the brake. The two connectors on the back of the loader control were wet. Should I try tightening the connectors? They have a nut at the end and another directly behind. Do I loosen the behind one before tightening the end?

I haven't begun using the BH yet.

Hi Scott:

Cngrats on the new tractor.

I have an AGCO ST22a.(no backhoe). I think that is the sister tractor to the MF GC2300 and other than the cosmetics they are the same machine. I absolutely love the thing and I am sure you will yours aswell. However the stickyness and the drips do not seem normal to me. Maybe the valves on the spool just need to be tightened but I do not know why the controls would have been sticky or if that had something to do with causing the leak or vise versa. Personaly with a new machine I would run the situation by the dealer, maybe something was missed in the PDI.

I've got 44.5 hours on mine - about ready to do the 50 hour service on it.

The only place trhe FEL control should stick is in the bucket down locked poisition - which allows the bucket to float. I've had no issues with leaks. As yours is so new, I'd ask the dealer what you should do about the leaks.

Congratulations on the new tractor. You will not be disappointed in your new work buddy. Mine has made my life alot easier. I have 80 hrs on mine so far.

Congrats on the new tractor. I love my little red MF'er. I personally haven't had any problems with leaking or the FEL sticking. Ditto on what the other guys said, it should only stick in the float position, and you know when you are in that for sure.

I have 55 hours on mine and just did the 50 hour service this past weekend. Not too bad for an inexperienced tractor mechanic. Things are pretty well laid out in the manual as far as instructions to change the fluids.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. The stickyness may be elusive to experience unless the dealer uses the backhoe for a few hours. 61flattop wrote something similar in his review... "I did have my bucket control get a little sticky a couple times but it was no deal... and keep in mind that in two days I logged over 12hrs on the meter.".
...I'd like to hear if the issue resolved itself.

I've been following the manual's break-in instructions which strongly recommends running the engine at full speed. I've been keeping the tach in the white-green zone. Even then, I find the engine to be quiet and smooth. The manual suggests some warm-up times that surprise me. Do folks really let their tractors warm up for 5-10 minutes before use (32F+)?

What year did this model become available? What are some of the high hours that folks have put on theirs? ...anyone reached 1000 hours?

Such a nice tractor, I wonder why this model is not more popular compared to the BX-2n series? Better marketing by Kubota?

Ok, some novice questions...
the manual implies there is a cover for the mid PTO on page 38. What are they refering to?

When not using the BH, should the boom latch and swing lock pins be put in place? If I forget to remove them and use the BH, is damage likely?

You will be very happy with the unit. I love mine and always amazes me what it can do for such a small tractor.

The pto cover is on the rear pto and is a safety device, must be removed to use rear pto ( of course )

I believe it became available in 04 or 05 ? I have an 06 with about 50 hours on it. I don't believe the 07 has any new features oil than the oil filter guard.

They are becoming more popular, Kubota has many more years of sales than this Massey. Will see in time I guess....

You should use the boom latch and swing pin when you are not using the hoe, as it puts less stress on the boom ram. And I would not worry about any damage if you forget to remove the latch and pin, the boom just won't move.

Welcome to the club, N1ST. You will have a ball with that little puppy. It can do a lot of work. I put it to the test a few days ago digging out some stumps and it performed as advertised.

1. I fire up the tractor get some stuff together and then get going. Usually takes a couple of minutes before I put any stress on the tractor. I don't usually time it, but I really do let it warm up a little bit beofer using any hydralics.

2. I believe that it will become more popular, I think the part of the country that you live in makes a difference. Seems to me that Kubota and JD spend a lot more money on advertising around here that MF. Come to think of it I have never seen a MF ad.

3. When driving with the BH on the boom latch and swing pin shoudl be in place. This makes it a whole lot safer, example would be drving across a slope and the boom swings to the side and topples the tractor with you on it.
I doubt that you would damage anything unless you repeatedly and for long periods of time worked against those two. Trust me, you find out quickly that they are latched, nothing moves.

Thanks for the reply AN.

I spent some quality time ;) underneath the tractor today trying to get an understanding of how it all fits together. I didn't notice any kind of switch connected to the brake linkage and that could explain why the red lights on the back end don't light up when I step on the brakes. Am I missing something?
