Hi everyone, been reading the forums and trying to make up my mind for a SCUT. These forums have been very helpful as well as other forums too. We are moving into our 8 acre acreage in the middle of December that we are building and am trying to decide which one to get. They are all nice in my opinion but like everyone has mentioned dealer and price are going to be big factors. I went from getting green to orange and back to green , looked at tym, mf, kioti as well. I think I want a TLB as I have a lot of work with landscaping and am deciding that when I need the BH ill have it and it isn't much to take off when I don't need it. Now I am leaning toward MF 1710 or 1720 and the kioti 2510 (but Kioti doesnt come factory TLB). Very confusing that's for sure. I will post when I do get one but I will have many questions before so expect some questions from this guy. Haha.

Thanks,

Skawtty (Scott)

Been reading the forums and trying to make up my mind for a SCUT.

Dealer and price are going to be big factors. I think I want a Backhoe as I have a lot of landscaping and IF I need the BH I will have it.

How rough is your eight acres? Subcompact tractors have only 9" of ground clearance. A moderate size tree trunk on the ground will teeter-totter a SCUT with 9" of ground clearance. CUTS have 12" to 14" ground clearance, a big difference when covering wild ground.

Add in dealer proximity as a consideration.

What landscaping tasks do you foresee for a Backhoe that your Front End Loader (FEL) will not accomplish? FELs and Three Point Hitch implements are used much more in landscaping than Backhoes. Landscaping is usually 60%-FEL, 40%-Three Point Hitch and 0%-Backhoe.

As cost is an important factor, why do you NEED a $/US 6,000 Backhoe on your first tractor? You will be plenty occupied learning Three Point Hitch implements the first 2-3 years. (FEL is easy.)

To the best of my knowledge only the SCUT Kubota BX25 model is designed as an integrated TLB from the beginning, with 20+ years of refinement to the original design. You cannot buy a BX25 without the integrated Backhoe.

Backhoes are available as options for most tractors. If you are a big guy, be sure to try the ergonomics of any Backhoe you may decide to buy. On a SCUT the operator's Backhoe station can be cramped.

The first 2 acres are generally flat then it is bush for the back 6 acres. I want to build paths and a firepit getaway in my back acres lol. Back hoe would be useful to me to do stumps and dig trenches and foundation for my shop I am going to build over the next 2 years, just putz away at it. I am actually heading out tomorrow to a few dealers and try a few more out to make sure I am comfortable on them. When I get home in morning I will post some pics of our acreage.

SCUT Backhoes are slow at stump removal.

For a small amount of trench work consider a $/US 350 Three Point Hitch Subsoiler to loosen ground, then a Rip & Dig bucket attachment or simply a garden spade to remove loosened spoil. Subsoiler is also good for small stump removal, up to 3" diameter.

$/US700 for two, rather than $/US 6,000

A Ratchet Rake is a very useful attachment in landscaping work.

Welcome from a former Calgarian, now living in Toronto.

Sorry about Calgary losing the Grey Cup last night, but what a game - the most exciting football game I have ever seen!

Welcome. I lived in Calgary for a year then moved to Ft. McMurray. I don't think you will have much issue digging out stumps there since the root system stays close to the surface and I never saw any really large trees in Alberta, so just about any small TLB should work for that. You do need to watch out for ground clearance when going into the brush. I think a B model in Kubota would work well. I would stay away from the BX due to low ground clearance issue and that pesky plastic cooling fan that is susceptible to a small stick getting into if from underneath and tearing it up.

I love my B26 which is the smallest of the commercial grade of small backhoes from Kubota. I bought mine slightly used for a very good price. No way could I justify the cost of a new one, but I sure wouldn't part with it for any amount of money. I use it strictly for TLB work even though I have the 3 PH arms for it, I have never taken off the backhoe. I do have a larger tractor for bush hogging and other chores but the TLB gets much more use than the LS P 7010 that I have.

Speaking of LS, you need to look at those if you have a dealer close by. You will get more bang for the buck with them than any other brand, at least down south, don't know about Canadian pricing strategy.
