Tractor
new buyer
Hi All,

Just purchased 7 acres in upstate NY. Old pasture flat and overgrown. Waist high grass and weeds. Small trees mostly 1"to3" in dia.
I want a small tractor big enough to clear the land before the builders come to do the excavating for building my home and then to have after to maintain the property.
What models would you recommend (HP? 4wd? Accessories?)
Thanks,
PG

Welcome - what are the future plans for the property development wise?

Unless you do have a future need for a compact tractor, it may be cheaper to hire someone to do the initial clearing. Since the builders are going to excavate anyway (probably using a bull dozer), that may be your best bet.

If you expect to have a couple or three acres of finished lawn and the rest pasture or field, I suggest a 25-30 PTO HP machine with a 72" mower (for the lawn) and a 60" rotary cutter (for the pasture/field).
Since I know more about John Deere then other brands, I'd suggest a 3320 or 3520 for new machines or 4300, 4310, (older) 3320 or 3520 for used machines.
Any of those machines with a rotary cutter could do the initial clearing too, BTW. I do suggest cutting the trees down first though. A tractor and cutter can knock them, but that's tough on the equipment.
