Has anyone been able to figure out the advantages of the "newly minted" rear 3rd SCV option available on the 2011 models?

I've been working the Internet for a good used 45-4720 or possibly a new one and have yet to talk with a salesperson who can explain how/why Deere came out with the "new" $900+ rear SCV versus the "old" $200+ rear SCV!

Will the end-user really benefit by paying more than $700 for the same hydraulic functionality as before - or, is there some "undefined - whiz bang" performance we should gladly add more zero's for in the checkbook?? :(

AKfish,
I am surely glad I bought the 2009 version with the mechanical linkage. It would have been better to offer an option such as the 110 has, why they didin't is beyond me. If the same hydraulics were available on the 4520 as I have on the 110 I would have not hesitated to order it.

The eh valve was specifically designed to improve third function "loader" performance, which is a plus. If just wanting a rear scv you are correct probably no real advantage. The rear eh scv's specifically the 4th and 5th will be independent so no diverter valve so I can see an advantage to both of those.

Only time can tell if this is a good move for them-very little info so far as to how it actually works. One thing for sure though, the 4th and 5th diverter option was/is a joke IMHO.

eh valves are not new, new possibly to the compact world but have been the norm in the ag world (i know a profanity here ;)) for some time now and it opens up a whole new world to automation and other really cool things. Picture a farm tractor where you can program the system that with one button it tells multiple scv valves to do multiple functions and can meter them more precise than a mechanical lever. Is this necc on a compact, probably not, does it cost more, yes. There is still a mechanical 4th and 5th valve for open station tractors and no diverter required, they are claiming no backward compable valves but maybe that is bunk. I would most definatly want a eh valve for third loader functions so my hand does not have to leave the joystick to run a grapple, etc. I could care less on the rear functions and have not had a chance to play with them but if they have done it right they will be much more precise and simpler to use than mech.

"Answers come to he that waits..." - or words to that effect! Looks like we'll all keep waiting!

I've seen pictures of the new controls available for the 4th and 5th SCV's. Toggle switches on the left side of the cab in the cab models and the extended levers from a valve body next to the ROPS on the open station machines.

Still no real understanding yet how the 3rd,4th,5th SCV's co-exist functionally with each other.

As you've all pointed out - the "old configuration" 3rd SCV was a stand-alone mechanical valve and the 4th and 5th were "shared" SCV's with the 2-function FEL and were activated by an electric diverter - switching back and forth when used.

Can I assume that the addition of the electro-hydraulic 3rd SCV means there is no longer any need for the electric diverter option? Would adding the 4th and 5th SCV's merely require routing new lines and couplers (and switches or levers) from the 3rd SCV electric-hydraulic control body?

One other problem with EH valves is they are not proportional, they are either ON or OFF.

It appears the the thrid eh gets it oil from the std mid valve body (or returning). I can not at this point tell you where the supply is for the independent 4th and 5th. It does appeat initially that the 3rd is not required to get the independent (regardless if mech or eh) 4th and 5th. I could be wrong there, also the diverter is still available and the power beyond has changed so maybe that is the oem supply? Don't know

good quality eh valves are very easy to meter regardless of proportioning or not. That is why I hope they have done it right, I can be ten times more precise with a eh valve on a 7430 for remote functions than a 4430 with mechanical scv's. I know not the best comparison there is a substantial difference, maybe I am hoping for the best instead of the worst.

I agree that it "can" be done right, but with generic solenoid valves that are often used for 3rd functions is all or nothing...the use of flow restrictors is needed to slow the function down-especially when using small cylinders like we have on TnT and grapple setups.
