I knew when the welded on cutting edge wore that I was going to replace it with a much better and stronger bolt on type due to the fact that I am in the business and knew it was the way to go. I did not think it would be in one year but snow plowing my drive and a couple other concrete and paved drives it took its toll. A while back I did see Paul Shorts video on installing one on his BX and got some ideas from him as well. I ordered a six foot one from my Kubota dealer being they dont make on my size. I then flipped my bucket up side down and did the lay out for the new cutting edge. You have to be sure to get it exactly centered on the bucket as it is reversible when needed. I then clamped the new edge into position. I knew the toughest parts would be drilling the new 1/2" holes through the old cutting edge. I knew I was going to use a mag drill to drill the holes. When I went to borrow the mag drill I discovered there are 1/2" cutters to use instead of using several different size drill bits which made it much easier. The cutters are similar to a hole saw and cut through the old cutting edge like butter! I used the new cutting edge for my template. Lined up the 1/2" bit hit the switch to clamp the drill down and did 9 new 1/2" holes very easily in one pass each! After I drilled the holes I had to weld on a 3/8" X 1" wide metal strip to support the back of the cutting edge. It also helps to strengthen up the bucket. After cutting off the new cutting edge to length with my 4 1/2 grinder to size the new cutting edge weighed 58 pounds. Well worth it for the added wear resistance and strength. Very happy with the new set up. All I have to do now is touch up the paint on my bucket.

Looks really nice. Question, would countersunk flat headed bolts work better and stay locked down a bit better than hex heads.
I was planning on getting one of those blot on snow edge things from Ratchet Rake to save mine before winter sits in. I think it well be kinder to my asphalt drive too.

These are the bolts that are made for this application. They have a square shoulder that fits right in the square hole in the cutting edge to lock them right in. They use the same type for cutting edges on heavy equipment.

That's a nice customIMG_0227.JPG job! I just put the Piranha tooth bar on my bx1870. a fellow BX owner told me it looks like it should be in a slasher movie. For Plowing snow, it is not.
