Hello to all. I have a pretty big problem and I'm hoping that with the advice and insight I might gain from the wide span of people on tractors by net, I will find the solution. I currently own a 2008 JD LA135 limited editon that I mow my two acres with. Yesterday in the classifieds I ran across a Craftsman GT5000 25HP V-Twin engine 48" deck and a great price tag. I was not in the market for a new garden tractor, but the price made me curious. Anyway, I bought the mower this morning. The engine is leaking oil from the pan gasket(fixable), the primary belt is missing(fixable), and the mower needs a bath (done), the rest of this machine is absolutely mint condition and its AMAZING! I paid 150 USD and it came with an extra set of tires and wheels that are brand new! And no you are not reading this wrong ONE HUNDRED FIFTY DOLLARS! The man I bought it from was very old and he said that he wanted to sell it for parts because with the oil leaking like that, the tractor was no longer good anymore. I handed the man the money as I was still in disbelief that such a deal could come my way, and here I am now owning two garden tractors. I know some of you could have gone with out hearing all of that but I am still very excited because I love to work on things, and now I can give my father a lawn mower so he does not have to push mow his 3/4 acre lot anymore. My problem is, the old man I bought it from had decided to sandblast and paint the entire mower, everything. When he did this he removed the plate that is under the seat that contains the model and serial number on it and then decided to lose it. I know the engine model # and there are a few part #'s under the hood, but I really need to know the model# for the entire garden tractor. There must be somebody out there that has the exact same mower and that can tell me what it is. I have talked to sears people, craftsman people, local lawn shop people, nobody can help me. I am asking for help from the people of tractors by net, CAN YOU PLEASE HELP ME OR REFER ME TO SOMEONE WHO CAN?

The model number would be nice, but based on what you are saying, you can get around it. The oil pan gasket, or any motor parts for that matter, are specific to the engine. The model number for the engine alone will handle most of the mechanicals. That number is usually on a plate on the side of the motor.

The belts may take some trial and error, but you can get pretty close with a tape measure, or rope tied tightly into the v-grooves on the pulleys and use that as a template at Sears parts or an AG dealer......Good buy that you made there, just be a little creative.

The parts that you need for the engine can be looked up using the numbers on the engine. the belt may be fun.

If you would post 4 or 5 pix, from different angles, people might very well be able to tell you what it is. At least closer than just guessing.

We know that your Craftsman GT5000 has a 25 HP V-twin, but is it Briggs & Stratten? or Kohler? or Kawasaki? Did he sandblast the tractor while it was still assembled? Or did he take it apart? Is it assembled now?
