New Bx2370-1 came today! Questions

FINALLY!! After waiting more than a month to get a new Bx2370-1 in stock with the new floor mat and narrow full folding ROPS it finally was delivered today. Played around in the yard a little, took the boy on a ride down to his grandmothers, and mostly just played with all the levers and functions. Now I am settling down and reading my manual tonight before I go off and really use the tractor for work and I already have one question. The deliver guy told me to run it at full throttle (RPM) when giving me my tractor "training" today and I recall the salesman saying the same thing when shopping and test driving in his lot but on page 15 of my manual it says "DO NOT OPERATE THE TRACTOR AT FULL SPEED FOR THE FIRST 50 HOURS". Is the manual referring to full speed "RPM" or full speed "MPH"? I sort of reads like It means MPH and that i shouldn't be lead footed with the gas pedal but I don't want to run her wide open (RPM) if I am not supposed to until she is properly broken in like the manual says. Likewise I've read if you don't have the RPM high enough when mowing and driving this can cause unnecessary strain on the HST, Hydraulic pumps, and give a poor cut. So tell me which "full speed" is the manual refereeing to and how should I proceed? Thanks Guys!

I believe it is RPMs they are referring to... and no need to ever run it 'full speed' in my mind. I am usually around 2500. Sometimes a little higher but mostly a little lower. I think it is a good idea to vary your RPMs during breaking in so it gets 'comfortable' at different engine speeds. Other than that... enjoy your BX and work her hard! And yes pics please or no one will believe you!

another question too.....what does it mean in the "tires, wheels, and ballast" section when it says "do not turn front/rear disk to obtain wider tread"?

two more questions.....I engaged my blades at higher throttle (probably 3000rpm) this evening while playing with the PTO. I just read in the manual that you should throttle down, engage, then throttle back up. Any chance I damaged the tractor or the mower? I wont do that again obviously but just wondering because the delivery guy never mentioned anything about that so It never crossed my mind. I just did it like I used to on my old garden tractor. 2nd is what RPM is WOT on these tractors? I thought I read 3200 some place by I did put mine up to full throttle a couple times just testing everything and it went to right around 3400rpm. Does that sound right?

For the first 50 hours I've not subjected my Kubotas to WOT and work that required WOT to get the job done. I've always worked them but tried to avoid that max running level to get the job done. :2cents:
There are those that believe diesel engines are made to run at WOT for maximum efficiency. I don't know or dispute that. I've been a gas engine guy up until 11 years ago when I bought my first Kubota, a BX2200. I have trouble running mine at WOT unless the job requires it just like some people still think you have to do full service at 50 hours instead of when the owners manual says mostly just because that's what they heard or because that's what Kubota recommended about 6 years ago.
I follow the manual but do not run mine at WOT during first 50 hours unless it's for short periods and not often. The salesman and dealer may have just been trying to get across to you to run your tractor with a diesel engine at high RPM and it doesn't hurt it and it operates better, not thinking about the 50 hour break in period but doubt it would hurt it if you do run WOT form day one till it is traded off 20 years from now just because your kid wants a new one.

Ok I'll probably just stay under 3000rpm for now. Seems to me that sounded like plenty to run most things until I get a better feel for the tractor. I did just finish my mower deck manual and saw in there that WOT (or close) was suggested to get the best cut out of the MMM. Of course that's also where I read not to engage the pto above half throttle to prevent shocking the system. Should I be concerned that I already did that a couple times out of ignorance?

I wouldn't be overly concerned at having done it only a few times. I'm sure I did it plenty of times on my first BX before I figured everything out. As for WOT I never run my tractor at full throttle which is 3400 or so rpm. When mowing or snow blowing I run around 2900 to 3000. This feels like the sweet spot to me. When using the loader or back hoe I run closer to 2000. More throttle than that doesn't increase the power of the hydraulics just the speed and I find the speed adequate at that rpm. Of course these are just my opinions but I had my first BX over 10 years with no serious maintenance issues and my current one going on two years so I don't figure I can be far off.

Pretty much what everyone said, we break in just a bit under PTO RPM, maybe 2800-2900 then at full RPM afterwards which is right at 3000. My daughters and sons have engage at PTO RPM's not initially knowing any different and one of ours is over ten years old, so you haven't hurt anything.

I'd be very concerned about it. Tell you what. You bring your damaged BX2370 over to my place. I'll send you home with my properly broken in BX2230, even trade. Your worries will be over.
