Two weeks ago, I bought a new BX2200 with 60" deck and FEL (paid $12,200). I love the tractor, but there is one thing that seems to be a problem, and I was wondering if anyone else has had the same problem, and if so, how it was fixed. Here's the problem:

My PTO selection lever is sometimes impossible to move. I try all the normal tricks, such as turning the PTO, engaging/disengaging the PTO clutch, moving the tractor, and on and on. Sometimes I can park it in this state, try it later, and it works without any effort whatsoever. Not only that, but the position of the lever, when engaged in the various positions, does not line-up with the correct symbols next to the lever. When it is engaged for both the mid/rear pto to turn, it lines up with the mid symbol. When engaged for the rear pto to turn, it lines up with the mid/rear symbol. It will not line-up with the rear symbol at all. Also, the detents for the mid and mid/rear engagements are awfully close together.

There is also a detent in the lever that is between the rear and mid/rear detents. When in this position, the PTO will grind when engaged. There should not be a detent here.

There is no adjustment in the lever or linkag, so the problem must be internal.

I haven't used or played with another BX2200, so I don't know if all of them are this finicky or not. I hope not. I will end up taking it back to the dealer for repair, but I wanted to see if anyone else has had this problem first.

Thanks.

Yes, that is a well documented and discussed problem with the mighty
BX2200. Lubrication, time and use will reslove the problem.

Lubrication fixed my sticking selector problem. Very smooth operation now.

Where did you lubricate? None of the friction points outside the transmission seems to be the problem. The way it works feels wrong.

Thanks,

I had the same problem, and I have 20 hours on my BX2200. I took it to the dealer and after checking the other BX's it was doing the same thing in those as well. They contacted Kubota and were advised that in time it would work into a smooth transition, that the teeth were new and very precise. I agree with Jeff, it just plain feels wrong, but there is a three year warranty on this area and now it has been noted with my dealer. Time will tell!!!

I lubed every friction point, even where the shift rod goes into the tranny. The lube I used was white Lithium grease in a spray can.

My PTO switch was hard to move and I practically had to force it with all my might. I know there is an indent and you kinda have to pull in and then down but it was still hard. The dealer said time will solve the problem. My throttle lever was almost impossible to adjust bit now it's fine too.

I disagree with the others. Because you say that the lever doesn't line up properly, you could have the shifter fork inside the casing out of line with the PTO selector. In this case, the deaer should have a good look at things before you go ahead and crank on things. It might be that the lever is just bent a bit, but I'd sure hate to see you damage something.....

I'd definately let your dealer take a look at things....
