First, thanks to all the previous posts, I used this group heavily to find information before making the big purchase. This is by far the BEST and most information discussion forum I have ever seen.

Would appreciate feedback on tire chains, I have a B7500 HSD w/FEL and turf tires. I have a stone driveway (lane) that is just under a 1/4 mile long. In the winter when the snow comes to VA, I am planning on using the FEL to remove the snow. With all the rain we received this year I have already noticed that the turf tires slip in the wet grass, which I am assuming will happen worse in the snow. Are chains worth the hassle?

Thanks again... nobody said it was going to be this much fun! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hi,

Chains are worth the trouble of putting them on if you need them. There have been reports of people using turf tires with pretty good success on snow without chains. Guess you may have to try yourself before you know for sure.

I ended up putting chains on my R4 tires afters breaking into a pretty good uncontrolled slide on wet grass last fall. I like my chains...we have hills here...do you have hills there where you live?

You might want to consider a cheap rear blade for clearing snow off your driveway. I have one and would not want to clear my driveway with my loader, in place of my rear blade, and my driveway is by no means as long as yours. you could angle the rear blade and run the complete lenght of your driveway...come back and maybe you would be done.

The loader bucket will fill up, and you will have to constantly stop, turn, dump it, get positioned and do it all over and over...or so it seems to me...

Loader is a poor tool to clean a driveway unless the snow is heavy and wet. You will tear up the gravel and dump alot of it on your lawn or where you put your snow.

Rear blade is ok if you have some shoes on it. Some companies sell a clamp on blade for loaders, these work well and have shoes on them.

Snowblower is nice if there is limited place to put snow but won't clean as nice as a blade without launching rocks through every window!
