1973 IH 354
I have enjoyed this site for a year now, check posts on a daily basis. This a trailer I have been working on now for a while. Hope to have it completed for spring. Plan on hauling my IH 354 with loader and rear scrapper blade, junk cars and maybe a small dozer someday. I wanted to add the tie downs as well as "fence" on the front to stop tractor or vehicles from going to far forward but looks like rain for the next 4 days. It is built a bit heavy but thats the way I like to build stuff. Here is the specs on this trailer.
Frame- 2"X6"X.250 for outer frame with 15' deck with 3' beaver tail
Crossmembers- 4"X.250 channel
Axles- 7000lb each, 4" drop, easy lube hubs, electric brakes on both, 8 bolt
Coupler- 2 5/16, 5 position, 12 000 capacity

Hope to deck it in with 1/8 checker plate.
I am going to attempt to attach a pic.....

Very nice AJ. Looks like its built stout enough and will serve you well. One word of caution with a steel deck is they get slick. Have you considered wood?

Also make sure that truck is up to the job of hauling them loads. Check the hitch especially for rust internally. Just saw a guy last night stranded with a broken hitch on 93 Suburban. I stopped to see if I could help but he declined, said his brother was on the way to hitch the trailer up. He showed me the hitch and it was a Reese Style made of 3" box .25" thick that had rusted through and broke right where the receiver tub attached. He said as far as he knows it was as old as the truck. Lucky the trailer stayed hooked up or it would have been lost since this is the same area the safety chins go. Luckily he was going slow when it happened. He was only 150 from a intersection where he had just stopped so I am guessing maybe 20 mph.

Not saying a old hitch and truck are bad, just make sure they are up to the job. I broke the factory hitch on my 2004 Ford F-250 4x4 Powerstroke 6 months after I bought the truck new.

I have considered wood with the 75% motor oil and 25% diesel fuel cocktail. My crossmemberas are 16" on center... would 2"x6" spruce be enough to support the weight of a car or my IH 354???

Mine just has pressure treated pine and it was painted black at the factory to match the trailer. I think my cross members are 24" on center so you should be fine. When I repaint it I will and so no skid.

By the way I haul my 5,200# tractor on it. I have also had a Suburban, and 20 or so other various cars from 2 different Corvettes down to a Kia.

I was trying to stay with the most "economical" way to deck it in with Xmas coming up and all.....I have 1 sheet of 1/8 checker plate that I was going to use for the deck but it can be easiler used for my fenders. I hauled my tractor home with a friend's trailer that was equiped with 2 3500lbs axles and the trip home was VERY exciting cause the road was very twisty... anything over 75km per hour and it was very unstable thats why I went with the 7000lb axles on my trailer........ I was very unprepared for that trip...I was in a hurry and forgot my anti-sway bars for my trailer hitch... forgot my load binders and most importantly..my trailer plug.....really smoked my truck brakes on one hill. Very interesting trip with no trailer brakes...pays to plan ahead.

I am currently rebuilding a 1988 Chev Crew Cab Daully with a 6.2.
