new 6D

6105D cab starts at $61,730, 5100M cab starts at $68,087, any reason not to consider the 6D over the 5M? only differences I see are transmission choices and the 5M has 3 cab choices. 6D looks like a sweet machine.

It does look like a sweet machine. The 6D is probably the better tractor. The 5M has to many options to decide on. I really like where the fuel filler neck is.

The 6D is a much larger tractor. It wouldn't fit though.one of my doors so I bought an E for now and possibly a 6D in the future. They are very basic but they have everything most people need.

Not sure how I'd feel about only having 9 forward speeds.

My wife and son really like their new 5065M 16F/16R with Power Reverser. They had intended on buying a 4WD but when they found out about the 5065M 2WD with everything they wanted and the price was $32K they couldn't turn that deal down. Friend of ours bought a new 5115M pretty much loaded and really likes it but says he has it weighted to about 12,000# now and it's just about right but with a full scoop of dirt it still feels a tad light in the rear.

There have been a number of folk's with M's who have noticed a tendency of the tractor to feel "light in the @ss" with heavy loader work - myself included. However, the newer model's have been stretched another 5 inches in total wheelbase length over previous M's.

I'd betcha that made a significant difference in both loader work and ride comfort over rough fields! :thumbsup:

The tranny options and electro-hydraulic hitch option would tilt me right back to the M for multiple-use purposes. However, if the majority of the work was heavy ground engaging work - disc harrow, plowing, chisel plowing, etc. - I'd go with the 6D and the larger frame-size. Really depends on what you need to get done....

i agree with AKfish as to what is the prime use for the tractor, the 6D would be better for the heavy field work.

primary use is a do-all farm tractor for 61 acre farmstead, primary uses will be haying, maintaining property, and moving snow. it slipped my mind until we just got over a foot of snow that the 6D would be too big to plow my driveway. I won't be doing any intensive tillage with it, I only have a 10ft disc. looks like the 5100M would be a better fit.
