Well, here I am at work with the new tractor sitting at home in the driveway. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif Another hour and I'm outa' here! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The new baby is a 5030HST and 843 loader with HD quick detach bucket and filled R4 tires. I picked up a used 6' tiller to go behind it this weekend - garden season is right around the corner. It took me a little longer to finally get it purchased than I wanted; I started pricing back at the first of the year. I had a M4900 that I had to sell first, and the buyer took a little longer to come up with the cash than anticipated (he's a friend, so it was really no big deal).

I believe that there is a litte dirt that will need to be moved from here to over there this weekend....... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

That is an interesting trade to go from the M4900 to the L5030. It seems the two machines are similar in power and weight but quite different in operation and "feel". Tell us more about what factors you considered and how long you've been mulling it over. Cool move. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Pics will have to wait for the weekend - but she is purty!

Also, obviously my fingers were not behaving properly - the loader is an 853, not 843 /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif.

Yes, you are right, the M4900 and the 5030 are really different in look and feel. The M4900 was a 2WD utility style tractor with a straight gear transmission - it was very tall and physically seemed much larger than the 5030. Some of the reasons for changing to the 5030 are:

(1) I wanted (needed) a loader and although I could have had one put on the M4900, it was just so "comfortable" when I tried out the 5030 and it felt like an integrated package. I didn't get that same feeling from the couple of farm tractors with loaders I had used in the past.

(2) Although I have been using the geared transmission M4900 o.k., I have a lot of hills and other terrian that had me puckered up on many occasions while working, so I think that the HST, 4WD, and lower center of gravity will add a measure of saftey in those areas.

(3) I wanted a new tractor! (I guess that is technically an excuse, and not a reason)

I think I got an o.k. deal on the 5030; $24,500 out the door for the 5030HST, loader with quick-attach HD 72" bucket, filled R4 tires, and canopy. What do you all think?

I got home in time to hook up the tiller and till my garden for the first time this spring, and I think I'm gonna like it! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
