I noticed this on the one looked at before ordering this one. We took delivery today. Wife drove it up to garage and couldn't get it to change(L side 1-4) or go into neutral. I tried it and had difficulty but was able to change it after messing with it.
Is this normal - just stiff due to new???

Congrats on the new purchase. Don't know what to say about the gears being stiff but if you noticed the same thing on the one you test drove it may be because its new. Check all your fluids just to make sure the factory or dealer forgot to check. Also check your tire pressures. Mine were way over inflated and my dealers pre check inspection didn't catch it. (The dealer pre check inspection says they checked them but if they had they should have set the pressures to the proper setting).

My R3039 has never been hard to shift gears 1-4 when it was new the forward reverse shuttle shift was not real smooth. As George suggested be sure to check the trans hydaulic fluid.

On my 4047 , the range shift is still pretty tight , takes a little bit to get it in gear. the trans shifter ( right hand H pattern ) is very easy to shift . I believe the difference is because the trans has synchronizers and the range box does not.

Range shifters are always a little stiff . When you shift it make sure make sure the drivetrain is not in a bind . Don't roll to a stop in 4wd , slam on the brakes and expect the range lever to be cooperative . Take it out of 4wd while moving , stop and get the other shifter in neutral . Take your brake off and let it roll a little . Take the bind out of the system . Hope this helps .

Thanks for the replies. I worked it Sunday unloading trailers and tried out my used 7' JD finish mower I just got on some overgrown yard that was not cut since early fall. It ran really smooth and the gear selector did loosen a bit although it is not near as easy to shift as my 4110 Mahindra.
Overall I was pleased with the performance.

My shuttle shift was a little right, but it seemed that they're was a learning curve with it... meaning, make sure the system isn't engaged (complete stop, feet on brake & clutch), then muscle it in. Sometimes I found that it helped to play with the foot throttle a bit as any RPM's made it hard to shift into range,. And you had to make sure it wasn't caught.

Just takes getting used to, and I'd it keeps binding, I'd have it checked out .

The great selector (right) was always smooth for me and no need to stop the tractor for that.
